It's a BABY!

A War Baby that is.

I sold my DPMS AR-15 for $650 last weekend at the Wilmington, Ohio gun show. As I was walking around, a few people asked how much I was asking and one dealer there asked if I wanted to trade. I told him that all I would trade for it is a M1 Carbine.

So six one hundred dollar bills, two twenties, and a ten is what I had in my pocket. I looked around, but saw a couple M1s. One was an Iver Johnson and the other one wasn't really worth looking at.

I looked in the local gun shop and on the rack was a high serial number Inland (6942XXX). The barrel is marked INLAND MFG. DIV, GENERAL MOTORS, 2-45. The wood is pretty decent shape with minor dings. It came with a "U.S." green canvas carrying case, three 15 round mags, and two 2 mag pouches (marked inside with POCKET, AMMUNITION MAGAZINE (cAL. 30, M-1 CARBINE OR RIFLE)
The price? $650 cash out the door.

Now I have something to go with my Garand.

edited to add:

What I love about the Inland M1s is the fact that they were born in the same city as New York Yankee Roger Clemens and me: Dayton, Ohio.

Sounds like you got a good deal. How does the Wilmington show rate to the other PRO shows ?

P.I.,
The Garand and the carbine make a nice pair. About a month ago, I had just started seriously looking to begin my collection of vintage war arms, and was at an estate auction of the late owner of a welding business. They had a bunch of handguns and a few long arms as well. Even though it totally busted my budget, I got a folding-stock M1 carbine and a better-than-average Garand. I paid $400 for the Garand (which was my limit--the other guy dropped out just in time) but I got the carbine for $175!! I was ecstatic, obviously. I haven't shot either yet (it rains constantly these days) but they sure are clean! :D

My wife is from Dayton!

A great place.

I had no idea that M1's were made in Dayton, nor did I know that Roger Clemens hails from there. I'll have to ask her later on today.

Leatherneck,

Sounds like you got a better deal than me. I'm not sure when I'll get to shoot my Carbine. Today's not looking good and this weekend isn't looking like I'll be free much.

If my buget allowed, I'd get a B.A.R. and a Thompson! :D

Don't forget Orville and Wilbur Wright are from Dayton.
