A War Baby that is.
I sold my DPMS AR-15 for $650 last weekend at the Wilmington, Ohio gun show. As I was walking around, a few people asked how much I was asking and one dealer there asked if I wanted to trade. I told him that all I would trade for it is a M1 Carbine.
So six one hundred dollar bills, two twenties, and a ten is what I had in my pocket. I looked around, but saw a couple M1s. One was an Iver Johnson and the other one wasn't really worth looking at.
I looked in the local gun shop and on the rack was a high serial number Inland (6942XXX). The barrel is marked INLAND MFG. DIV, GENERAL MOTORS, 2-45. The wood is pretty decent shape with minor dings. It came with a "U.S." green canvas carrying case, three 15 round mags, and two 2 mag pouches (marked inside with POCKET, AMMUNITION MAGAZINE (cAL. 30, M-1 CARBINE OR RIFLE)
The price? $650 cash out the door.
Now I have something to go with my Garand.
edited to add:
What I love about the Inland M1s is the fact that they were born in the same city as New York Yankee Roger Clemens and me: Dayton, Ohio.
