An article on this particular shotgun in Iraq. The author mentions the 590's "all steel construction", but every 590 I've ever seen had an aluminum receiver.

The writer probably meant "all metal constuction", as opposed to the 500's and 590's that have some plastic parts.

I don't think they've ever made the 590's in anything but aluminum.

I think it might be the writer misspoke and meant all metal construction. The the gov't. contracts specified metal trigger guards and safeties as opposed to the plastic versions on the civilian guns.

If I recall the article refers to the "military 590" and not 590A1. The photos also show shotguns that didn't have ghost ring sights like the 590A1 does. Is the military using a hybrid of the two - all metal trigger guard and safety but without the ghost rings on the commercial 590A1.
