So I buy a gun that I hate
Newton

There I am in the gun store looking at the CZ PO1 (it's amazingly small for a duty sidearm) and the Springfield XD (eewwwww, it's even worse than a Glock for pointability) and I'm heading out the door when I see it lurking there like the unloved red haired child.
It took the length of the following conversation for me to buy a gun that I have bad mouthed for ever.
"How much for this"
"Oh it's on clearance, $399"
"Really ?, they're certainly different, errrr, ok why not, I'll take it"
"Oh wait a second it's $349 not $399"
"I'll definitely take it now"
So what is it - well I thought I'd make this interesting and describe the things I've always hated about this pistol and see if anyone can figure out what it is.
It has:
1. A notoriously stiff safety (not bad on this one though)
2. Almost no slide, difficult to grip.
3. Chunky grip.
4. Looong DA trigger, with a long reach for smaller hands.
5. A VERY wide slide.
Go ahead take a shot.

Both it and the XD's were low to mid 450's, I don't remember exactly. I liked the PO1 a lot, but I wasn't really looking for another 9mm. The gunstore assistant told me that the XD 9mm is their best selling pistol by a wide margin.

Jeez Skunkabilly you took all the fun out of that real fast.
Great call, it's a 9000 Type F in .40 S&W and I'm still wondering what came over me.
A prize ? well, maybe if I was rich

Newton, you're still in MD right? Where around here did you find a Beretta 9000 for $349, do they have any left, and do they have any in 9mm at that price?

I'm guilty of 9000 lust myself. Designed by the same cat who designed the Cx4 Storm... who also designed a number of the worlds coolest cars and boats and a few airplanes and a lot of other super cool expensive Italian stuff.

Well, the "chunky grip" AND the "almost no slide, difficult to grip" had me thinking Beretta 9000 immediately.
I've never fired one, but those were some of my immediate impressions after looking one over in the shop. . .

I know why you really bought it. It is because Tom Cruise had one in the movie "Minority Report". Am I right or what?;)

I tried hard to like that gun. Compact, polymer frame, takes 92FS magazines. Open slide, frame mounted safety cock and lock.
A skunk's dream. Believe me I REALLY wanted to like this gun.
I wonder if Ernest Langdon can make an extended safety and trigger job for it. Then I'll put grip tape over the entire rear of the slide.
Believe me I REALLY wanted to like this gun. :(
Firestar, you can only be Tom Cruise if you carry it weak side in an FBI forward canted holster.

Someone asked if this was bought in Maryland and I'm wondering if it was what store and where? I know the only thing that I've seen close to that price in Beretta anything in the Glen Gurnie/Pasadena area was a used 86 cheetah in .380

I like the 9000S...it's an interesting design. Mine has never failed to work properly.
Regarding the safety...it isn't stiff at all if you press down on the forward tip of the safety lever instead of the entire lever.

Heck you could always sell or trade it if you don't like it, and you would at least break even.

I'd probably buy one at that price, too.
Just for the looks - I don't need another pistol.

I handled one when they first came out. I'm not a Beretta fan, except for the 92 Compact models, but I thought I'd have a look at the new 9000 series. I was not impressed.

Don't let anybody tell you it's not a good gun. And don't let 'em tell you it's ugly either.
Though I just sold mine and got a Steyr S-40, it wasn't a bad gun at all. Never had a failure to feed or fire, and it outshot thre Glock .40's I've owned (27 and 2 X 22's)
You can replace the hammer spring with a Wolff SIG 232 hammer spring and lighten up the DA trigger pull.

I don't think that it is UGLY, I think it is kind of neat looking.
What are the dimensions?

It has one glitch that I'm hoping will disappear with break in, and it's a weird little fault.
In single action the trigger transfer bar sticks a little and clicks up as soon as you touch the trigger, you can clearly feel it as soon as any pressure is applied on the trigger. It doesn't do it every time, so I'm waiting out the break in period because I hate shipping handguns for repair, especially for such minor problems.
Picked up 3 boxes of FMJ today, this weekend it's fun time.

The 9000. Odd pistol. Odd name. Very odd. Almost bizzare. Like those South African Vectors almost. What was Beretta thinking?
That said, I almost bought one myself the other day. I don't like rubber grips though and that queered it.

George Hill, you should be permanently barred from posting here after mentioning the name of that hideous, grotesque, overweight, overbearing, pompous piece of whale turd! You caused me to have a mental picture of it, something I've been successful at avoiding for many years. You ba$**** you!
:barf: :barf: :cuss:

P.S. George, as serious as I am about my dislike of that 'thing', I don't mean for my post to be an attack on you. I hope you understood that though.

George,
Nah, it's not at all like that creepy woman. You've got to think more like: "a petite little cutie pie with a little bit of substance to cuddle up to, eye-catchingly beautiful, and stylish enough to turn heads."
Shoot, I married a gal like that! :D
Dang, now I need one of these!
"It reminds me of you, honey!"
