CALNRA: NRA-Sponsored AB 854 Unanimously Passes Assembly
11:40 AM, 05/03/2007 - PLEASE DISTRIBUTE WIDELY

AB 854, an Outdoor Writers/NRA-introduced and sponsored bill, today passed unanimously (72-0) off the Assembly Floor. Thank you for your efforts in support of AB 854. Please stay tuned for AB 854's first committee assignment in the Senate.

Issue: PUBLICATIONS (Keene)

Description: Existing California law does not allow a firearms manufacturer or dealer to import into California to "Loan" to an evaluator/writer a handgun that is not listed on the DOJ "not unsafe" handgun list. AB 854 is intended to copy a Federal mechanism for loans, creating a system to allow the loan to take place through a dealer and be returned to the manufacturer through a dealer within 45 days.

That's neat and all, but all it does is let the "professionals" play with guns, while regular citizens aren't allowed to buy them. Doesn't mean squat to me.

Like the motion picture exemption to the AWB, I see laws like this as unimportant at best, and at worst, I think they hurt us by making it more convenient for those who might otherwise be allies in the RKBA fight, but who can now make money with firearms without the restrictions that the rest of us have to live with.

That said, I do appreciate the good work that good people are doing here in CA.
