I'm thinking about buying a Steyr S9 or S40. I just sold my H&K Compact 9mm and I'm wondering if the felt recoil of the S40 is much more than the S9. Also, is there a difference between the grip size of the two, or is the frame and grip the same ?
Thanks in advance.

Frame and grip should be identical. I have an M40, and its felt recoil is less than my CZ75 9mm, even with "warm" self defense loads. I have not fired an S series, but my guess is it won't be a deal breaker for you if you decide to go with the S40 over the S9, based on my experiences with the M9 and M40.

Why did you sell your H&k? Did you sell it to by a Steyr?

I too have fired a LOT of rounds through both the M9 and M40...and the recoil difference between the two guns is negligent...I can imagine it would be similar with the S series....and both the S9 and 40 are the same dimensions.

Thanks for your replies. I can find the S40 for $60 dolars cheaper than the S9, but wasn't sure about the recoil. Your responses have eased my mind on that.
Flashpoint- Actually I sold my H&K with the intention of buying a Glock 19. I took a three day course last September and wasn't shooting my H&k as well as I shot the instructors Glock 19. He said the Glocks grip angle and trigger suited me better. I could definitely feel the difference in the trigger. From what I've read the trigger on the Steyr is even better than the Glock and the grip angle makes a more instinctive point shooter.
Any info you have on holsters etc. would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The natual point of aim I have with the M40 is one of the reasons why I bought it. I can hit the target without looking at the sites. They really are a good gun. Check out

for some good, reasonably priced holsters. They are good people and make the holster to fit the gun when you order.

Took the plunge today S40 and two extra mags from CDNN Investments. Thanks for the input.
Has anyone seen or heard anything about tactiacl lights or lasers that will mount on the "rail."
Thanks, Flashpoint for the link. Anybody else have info for CCW holsters for the S40, especially small-of-the-back rigs ?

and the recoil difference between the two guns is negligent...
In that case maybe you should take them to civil court.

CCW rigs are going to be very hard to find without sending your pistol to a custom maker...
However, Fobus markets a holster that is supposed to work with the S series guns...I am not a fan of Fobus, or plastic holsters in general...but they are only like 20 bux, so may be worth a try.
