What do you use your SW627 for: fun, games, hunting, HD, open carry?

I only "discovered" the 627 yesterday (realized it uses full moonclips yesterday, changed my thinking about it). I have decided that 38/357 guns are going to be the core of my CCW.

But I have to admit my 4" 629 is my favorite gun. Not most expensive but favorite. For home defense the 629 and Win 1300 are what I rely on for several reasons. Part of it is at home I don't have to conceal so I can use larger bore & more powerful weapons. I don't know if 44 special (HD load for the 629) is better than 357 but it certainly makes me FEEL better.

Anyway, the bulk of my shooting is going to be 38 & 357 because that is what I am using for CCW, so I am really looking hard at the 627 for regular practice (the feel of it will be closer to the 629 than my current 357), HD, and hiking. Also for fun, I like shooting 180 hard cast loads in the 357, I would think the 627 would make them real mild compared to my 4" Security Six.

Has anyone used the 627 for carry? Or do most people use it for gaming and fun?

...although I have CCW'ed the 627 before. It's no smaller than your 629. Maybe 3/4" shorter in the barrel is all.

Would you feel better toting 6 rounds of .44 or 8 rounds of .357?

Who says it has to be one or the other? :D I could do like Edmund (aka Edzilla)

Seriously, I have found belt and shoulder carry to be much more comfortable when balanced. And while it sounds silly to me to carry TWO N frames, I can't say it won't happen. What else would you use to balance an N frame anyway?

But to answer your question I would feel better with six 44's vs eight 357's. Logic isn't involved. Ask Oleg what he thought of the 44 caliber GDHP's, evidently you haven't shown him the 200 GDHP? I thought I saw you post somewhere that you use them at least sometimes in one of your guns.

Oh, don't get me wrong on the "6 versus 8" question. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer; I'm just as happy with either, myself.

I sometimes use the Blazer Gold Dots in my 296 or my 624, although I generally prefer Federal's 200gr LSWC-HP.

Mine is a cool toy. It does stay loaded in the off chance I need or want it for home defense but I am not confident enough in my shooting abilities with it to rely on it for primary HD.

The grips are a little big for my hand and that pulls my double action shots off of point of aim enough that I would rather rely on the myriad of other defensive weapons. I am going to experiment with the grips at some point though.

As a toy it is a blast. Single action trigger is great and the looks you get from people when they see those 8 holes in the cylinder.

Very cool gun.
