Howdy,

How much are you all paying for .45 ACP bullets for reloading? Are they about the same or less expensive than .38/.357 bullets?

A bit more expensive. Most of my bullet purchases are from www.midwayusa.com. Shipping is not that bad as they are only a hop skip and a jump from my place. Also I only load jacketed bullets. in .38 Spec, .357 mag, 9mmX19, .45ACP, .30-30 and .30-06...

2000 Ranier 200 Gr. SWC (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=781450)& free Freight at Midway. Great shooting bullet.

Berry's Bullets (http://www.berrysmfg.com/categories/17-0.php) - I like the 185 Gr. SWC, the 185 Gr. HBRN, the 200 Gr. HP, & the 230 Gr. RN

Zero JHP's (http://ghostholster.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_46) - I really like the 230 Gr. I have not tried the 185 Gr..

I buy mostly 185 grain SWC's for my .45 since I shoot Bullseye. Right now KEAD bullets are around $40 per thousand plus shipping if you buy more than 5K. He will ship in USPS flat rate boxes, so it's not too bad. He's backlogged right now, but he makes a good bullet. www.keadbullets.com
His 230 grain RN is slightly more expensive.

Also, I've used American Precision bullets. They make a 180 grain SWC plus the normal 230 RN. They will also ship USPS flat rate if you ask.

Both sell their .45 bullets cheaper than I can buy 148 grain HBWCs for my .38 wad gun.

In IPSC/IDPA, the moly bullets are popular for their price:

Check out MasterCast. Great bullets and great customer service. Shipping charges can very from supplier to supplier. MasterCast ships 2000 of my bullets for around $8 plus a couple for insurance. Mike is a good guy to deal with. http://www.mastercastbullets.com/index.html

Give Penn Bullets a try. They've always had a good product.

In one 45 day period recently, raw lead went up 31%! Bullet prices have been going up steadily in the last 3 years and are expected to continue to rise, just like gas, only there's a reason for lead to go up, unlike gas.........

Hope this helps.

I am going to start mining lead out of the back stop at my favorite outdoor range.

I've been mining bullets from our range for the last several years. It's part of our "Best Management Practices" agreement with the EPA and National Association of Shooting Ranges. So far, I've mined about 600 pounds and melted it back into bullets. I've probably mined some of the same bullets several times over the years.....

Hope this helps.

I used to go to where we would shoot after a good rain and the bullets would be sticking out everywhere after the erosion from the rains. That was back when we could go outside the city limits and shoot anywhere they had dug dirt and there was a good backstop from the digging. No one cared or worried that people shot back then. :)

$20 per 500 for 45 cal 200 gr lead RNFP at local dealer. These are made by Aliant in ?Ga?. I called him up recently and he said they would be $17 at a gun show, but he also delivers to local dealer so I grabbed a few boxes while i could.
