Do you think .356 diameter for 9mm plated bullet is to big. In all of the manuals I have looked at say to use .355 FMJ or HP. I know a lead bullet can have a diameter that big and still be safe, but what about a plated bullet?

Thinly plated should be fine, it's just a lead slug with a thin coat, not a true jacket. Just think of it as a lead slug, without the leading.

They work fine in taper crimp calibers like your 9mm. Calibers that use a roll crimp have a tendency to strip off the plating.

I have shot .356 bullets in 9MM's with no problem. I would buy .355 unless you have a barrel that needs the little extra diameter though. :)

After shooting many, many thousands of the Berry's plated 9mm bullets through several different handguns, I can tell you they shoot just fine. I've run them through Springfield XD's (3 of them), Witnesses (4 of those) and Smith & Wessons (3 of those), all in 9mm. The plated bullets are made that way on purpose, since they're soft. There has to be something for the rifling to grip, or the bullet won't stabilize properly.

You'll do fine with plated bullets in .356" diameter.

If you work up your loads from the beginning any diameter that will chamber will be fine. More problems are caused by too small bullets than by oversized ones.
