You'll likely get a lot of answers.. Most people I talk to who claim they get clean burning out of is Clays. I don't have any load data, but this one is very popular.

As colt1911fan said, you're likely to get lots of anwers. W-231 (my favorite) will be a lot of the answers, as will Clays. Unique might be the powder of choice for quite a few .45ACP loaders. Some use HS-6, but I personally havn't had very good luck with HS-6 in .45ACP loads.:)

I've had excellent results with Winchester 231 in all bullet weights in .45 acp. Bullseye is also a favorite of target shooters, since it delivers outstanding accuracy in this caliber.

You're going to have to clean the gun anyway, so unless a powder gums it up to the point it stops working, I wouldn't really worry about one being "cleaner" than another, but that's just my opinion.

Hope this helps.

All powders are relatively clean at their optimum operating pressures, faster powders usually more so since less powder equals less residue. You need to use jacketed bullets to get clean loads, most of the mess with reloads is the bullet lube on lead bullets. The question is can you tolerate a bit more cleaning for for bullets that are 1/2 the price of jacketed?
