Getting ready to buy bullets again, and its down to these 2 choices. Im loading 150 & 180's for my 308win, and my 300wm. Whats your experience with these 2 bullet types?

Welcome prime8!:)
Sorry, no experience here with either bullet. I use Hornady BTSPs in my .30-06 for deer and Speer Grand Slams in my .300WM for elk and occationally deer. I'm guessing you're thinking about using either the Sierras or the Swifts for hunting, right? It seems to me the Swifts are about 4 times the price of the Sierras, aren't they? The price difference wouldn't be a big deal to me if I knew I was only going to shoot a dozen or so of them a year for sighting in and then taking a big game animal. But I couldn't afford to shoot many Swift Scirroccos at paper - I can't afford to shoot many of those Speer Grand Slams I use for elk hunting at paper either.

I've used the Sierras since back around the early 1970s.

I've found that if you drive the 150-grain SPBT out at around 3,000 ft/sec or so, don't shoot at something close up. :) They don't stay together real well; the jacket's not as thick as for the flat-base. Once they're below about 2,700 or so, they're great. The flat-base won't blow up.

The 180-grain SPBT should give excellent penetration on, say, elk.

I've always gotten tight groups from my '06 with every sort of Sierra bullet I've ever used.

Apples to oranges, really.

Check out the cost difference, too.

The Scirocco's are very good PREMIUM "bonded" long range bullets and are best utilized in rifles that will over drive the Sierra's.
(see Art's post above. I actually haven't had a Sierra BTSP shed the core, but they do expand very readily. I've used the Sierra's with complete satisfaction from .243 to .338. But not in true Magnum rifles)

I'd use the Sierra's in the .308 and the Sirroco's in the Magnum.
or, the 150's in the .308 and 180's in the mag.

I've acutally had VERY good luck with the Remington 180gr Cor-lokts (bulk packed components) in my .300RUM loaded to around 3,300fps. Most accurate bullet in "my" gun and they hold together exceptionally well. I should mention the are "cheap" too. (If $12.00/100 can be called cheap!?)
Can't bring myself to spend $50/100 for a box of Scirroco's and have to shoot up most of them in load development. I already have a lifetime supply of the Nosler Partitions and CorLokts. (primers and WC-860 I bought for $50/16lbs too)

But they are darn good looking bullets !!!!!!! (Scirrocco's).

Sierra Gamekings serve me well in my .06. I use 165gr JSP and have used the hollow points in the past. The hollow points did some major damage to the animal. I'm driving them at 2930fps out of a 22" barrel. The JSP's didn't do as much damage but they put the deer down where they stood. Accuracy is under 1" at 100yds.

Haven't used the Swift bullets so I'm not much help there.

I use speer 150gr hot cor spitzers from my -06 and found it to be a good bullet and fairly robust, But i also use gamekings in 150gr. I have found it to be nice and accurate but i am yet to take a deer with it.

I do plan on using them primarily for hunting, but I do want to use similar bullets at the range. I was told by a couple people about the jackets on the Sierra's coming apart over 3000 fps. Not good for my 300wm. If I went with the scirroccos, The 300 would be pleased, but my wife may kill me....
I want a boat tailed, hunting bullet. Im probably going to go with the Sierra's and hope for the best. Im gonna wait another week, and think on it.....:(
