More problematic Glocks

It makes me wonder why so many people are having the same kinds of problems with Glocks...breechface collapse!! The KB issue was bad enough, now there is cracking slides and broken frames and probably more that havnt been reported yet.

The first thread is a JOKE poking fun at Glock bashers (ahem..)
The third thread shows a KB from a bad round of crappy Armscore ammo. Could have (and does) happen to any gun when the ammo is out of spec.
I think I'll keep mine :D

For those of us who have put more than a 1000 rounds thru more than 7 models of Glocks... {yawn} ITs just another "I don't like 'em, so nobody should" bit of silliness!

Yada yada.
So much hype.
G17's and G19's will probably last forever. The only rare true reported KB's and cracked frames are in .40 and .357S&W frames made for the 9mm. Funny, but I have never seen a picture posted on the internet of this kind of failure in a 9mm Glock.
I can't attest to 10mm or .45s. Most .45s are relatively low pressure rounds, so I would think it dubious to hear of a KB in a Glock .45. If you shoot lead slugs in your Glock, then you take your chances.
All I know is that the G17, from a reliability standpoint is probably the greatest handgun ever made. I never clean mine. It shoots everytime all the time. The G19 is the same gun, just a tad smaller.
Modern 9mm ammo is quite sufficient for defense purposes, which is what a handgun is for anyway.

It's all because their barrels are coated in a micron-thick layer of Tinickel Tunstanium, which is really slippery to copper but way-sticky to lead.
That's why you can't shoot lead in factory Glock barrels. Honest. That man chain-smoking cigarettes at the range told me so, and he's a real "operator."

I heard that they suffer from disconnector headspace problems and unsupported trigger return springs!
That's nothing compared to the problems you'll have if you don't plug the hole in the backstrap to keep dust and dead skin from fouling the horizontal, transparent muffler bearings!

In my handgun safety class, we had to go up to the front of the class, pick up a pistol off of the desk, describe what it is and what caliber, and say "I don't know if its loaded or not" or something like that, then make it safe and set it down.
I picked up a G19.
Me: This is a Glock model 19 in 9mm. There is a round in the magazine, but I dont know if there is one in the chamber.
Instructor: How do you know that?
Me: Because i can see through the space between the slide and frame, and i see an orange dummy round.
(I remove magazine and lock back the slide)
Instructor: By the way, do you know what that space is for between the slide and frame?
Me: No.
Instructor: Thats to allow the wind to blow through the pistol, and allow for faster cooling, and to make the pistol less affected by windage.
Me: Wow. Thats interesting.
Instructor: Yes, yes it is. And its also a complete lie.
True story :D

I especially liked the one about disconnector headspace.
I had a guy tell me once that Glock slides would crack in
10,000 rounds or less because they were case-hardened,
cold-rolled steel. He said that with a straight face.
Had another guy that insisted that the reason a gun makes
a loud noise was because the bullet fits the barrel tight,
and it makes a big pop as it squeezes out...like
a popgun. "See...The powder is all burned up before the bullet
gets out, and all the gasses do is push on the bullet until
it leaves the barrel with a loud..."POP".
More will come to mind...

Ok, On the other hand Glocks have had their share of propaganda.
I've seen two Glocks that badly rusted and one the barrel was so bad it needed replacing.
I've seen brass bulge badly in 40's and 10mm, with factory ammo. I've seen them choke, gag, hit people in the face with brass and springs breaking.
Don't get me wrong, I've owned two Glocks and they are just like any other gun (just butt ugly :D ).
I shoould of taken pic's of the rusty Glocks. :banghead: :banghead: One of them is in this pic on the left but it is finished (restored) now. See the writing on the wall? Hahahahaha!

Glock makes a good pistol. Not only is it a sound design, it's a damned good one. The reasons that I don't like Glocks are personal, and therefore, invalid in any logical debate over the design. I admit that I'm a little uncomfortable with the
case head support in the chamber, but that seems to be an occasional issue rather than representative...and it seems that it's due largely to ammunition selection. Glock makes no bones about the ammunition requirements, and all would be advised to heed that caveat. When we ignored Smith & Wesson's warning about +P ammo in their Airweight J-frame revolvers, we found that the little guns could be battered into unserviceability in short order.
The only commercial ammunition that is the exception would be Blazer, and not because the ammo is no good, but because the aluminum cases don't seem to be up to the task of the unsupported chambers. With a fully supported
chamber, Blazer is fine, though still not my ammo of choice.
Whenever I hear somebody engaging in Glock Bashing, I remember that if there were any inherent flaw in the design that made the pistols unreliable, the thousands of cops who depend on them would have raised their voices long ago. Any design has its strengths and weaknesses, just as any design can fail at a critical moment. There is no perfect pistol, Glock, Colt, Ruger or otherwise.
Cheers all!

I heard that Glock put out some models (non caliber specific) that had inefficient interdenominational warp transmogrifiers, but that the problem has since been corrected!! Those people who own Glock pistols whose rounds do not consistently jump to sub-space when trying to shoot through solid objects, which may be used by the bad guy to hide behind, should return them to Glock for a replacement part!! Current Glock armorers are not, I repeat, not authorized to complete this work!!! Pistols MUST be returned to either Austria or Georgia for proper repair!!!!

This is a Glock model 19 in 9mm. There is a round in the magazine, but I dont know if there is one in the chamber.
The extractor of a loaded Glock will be visible if you look down on it from the top. An empty chamber allows the extractor to lie flush with the slide.
If you rub your trigger finger up the side of the slide and it catches on the extractor, there's one in the pipe.

Several kinds of ways to tell if the Glock is chambered. The only safe way is if the trigger is forward. Then, chambered or not, treat it as so, as the firing pin has been pre-cocked, and the trigger can be pulled.
Many years ago, when I was un-initiated to the world of Glocks, I too, believed all the negative hype about plastic warped and fragile cracked frames. How you could get them through the metal detectors at airports. How a composite gun could never be as good or strong as an all steel one.
So, I don't really condemn anyone new to the plastic fantastic. When Glock changed the frame in generation 3, it finally fit my small hands, and that, along with a Chuck Taylor 100,000 round magazine article indurance test, convinced me to buy one - a G17.
I have been hooked ever since. Love the simplicity, the reliabilty, the low maintenance, the sweet low recoil (almost like a .22), decent accuracy, and quite frankly, once you get used to it, I adore the standard 5lb trigger, with it's just right lack of anticipation of the break.
No gun is perfect, but the Glock 17 comes pretty close in my book. Just my two cents.
P.S. I have never seen a hint of rust on any Glock, but there are probably exceptions if the Tennifer process was not applied properly. There are always lemons in any lot.

I know how to tell when it's chambered...
When I pull the trigger and it goes Pow!
Otherwise, it's not chambered.
:o
Glocks will just "GO OFF" if you put them in a microwave on high power for no less than 30 seconds. In fact, the new military microwave weapons designed to disperse large crowds, will cause glocks to 'GO OFF' instantly.
Glocks will explode if you fire them underwater without a towel wrapped around them.
Because glocks are black, they heat up faster than your average pistol. Install a cooling fan during the summer.
Glocks will only fire 9mm correctly. Any other caliber will cause a KABOOM.
No Glock has fired more than 10,000 rounds. If someone disagrees, they are lying.

Boy, a lot of nonsense over nothing. The Glocks with that frame crack are only good for many thousands of rounds, so it is not really a panic situation.
But the amusing part is the instant reaction by one group (Glock lovers) in totally denying that anything could possibly go wrong with a Glock, balanced by another group (Glock haters) who insist that this is only the latest proof that Glocks are junk! Both views being so narrow minded and stupid that I wonder if any of those folks ever actually owned any kind of a gun.

I'm pretty sure that Glocks kaBoom! and crack frame rails, light revolvers bind up from the bullets jumping crimp, 1911's jam, SIGs rust and crack frame rails, USP's break firing pins, P7's overheat, and et cetera.
I learned this from the internet, and that's why I carry more than one gun. ;)

Glocks are "Perfection"...marketing perfection that is. They sell cheap crap for the same price of a new Beretta and since they are cheap as hell to make, they give them away to many agencies. Then they brainwash the ignorant, mostly new buyers, into thinking that Glocks are somehow special.
When a gun company says' that their guns uses 50% less parts you have to wonder what 50% were left out and why is cost 50% than other cheaply made gun. Glock has left out many safety features and Kb's are the product of one of them. A lack of out of battery fire prevention system. Glocks will fail where other guns won't. Another example is the poorly designed chamber. It's not the ammo folks. It's a loose chamber and lack of case support at the rear. To milk their cow even more they take a gun designed for the 9mm round and try to make it work with as many different calibers as they can, unsafely.
I've handled and shot Glocks and they feel, shoot, and sound like a cheaply made plastic gun, unlike HK USP's. I hate Glocks not because they don't shot bullets, what gun doesn't, but because of their design, high cost, and cheap feeling. Not to mention all the B.S. hype all the newbies mouth-off all the time. I swear that Glock has the most newbies and ignorant owners.

I agree that most newbies ask for Glocks. That's what the cops carry. :) Probably worked for S&W too.
One of the things that brought me back to Glocks was their success rate in IDPA matches. Not score wise, but reliability wise. I never saw a Glock with good ammo jam. Scuzzy reloads specificly excluded.

I have owned a few handguns over the years including the beloved USPs (in 9mm/40cal/45acp). They didn't turn me on. I always go back to Glocks. When I first started shooting them I thought they were inaccurate. It's amazing how Glock has improved the accuracy of them the more I shoot them!:what:

Thinking back over the years I have been in volved in this stuff (handguns and shooting) I have met, talked to, read or seen somebody who hates, dispizes, can't stand, won't own or shoot every make, model and caliber of handgun there is.
Guess they are all crap. Now what are we gonna do???

Most reputable brands of hanguns are good, accurate, reliable weapons. I chose mine because I like a particular system.
I like Glocks.
Don't care for M1911s.
Ruger revolvers turn me on.
S&W less so.
Ruger autoloaders are thick as a brick.
etc., etc.
Some people like cats. Some like dogs. Some- both.
You will always come across a lemon in any breed. Some folks bemone the Kimber as a jam-o-matic, yet others swear by them. Some folks hate Kahr's because of that Moon thing. There are BHP fans, 92 fans, SIG fans, H&K fans, and of course, Glock fans. And there are bashers of every make and model.
Got a Glock with a frame that is cracked?: post a picture. Kaboom?: tell us about it. Jam a Kimber?: let's see how. Bad quality control of a Kahr?: let's see the image.
Buy quality hanguns and ammo, and use what is good for YOU, but if your bashing or praise is innuendo or hearsey . . . save it.
