I for one would never consider joining any kind of combat arms service branch.

Ever seen Brave Heart??:what:

Caesar lived in a world without guns. You remember him? He was the guy they stabbed to death.

I think this sums up the purpose of self defense arms perfectly.

we emerged from a world without guns, I hope that anyone who has read any history would not want to go back a thousand yrs. Probably be a world full of Charlie Mansons, mass stabbings every day.

a world without drugs would be the answer to most of the worlds problems.

Nice thought, but I can't forsee it ever working~! :uhoh:

If in todays society, before the return of Jesus Christ every law abiding
citizen (and maybe some not so law abiding types) laid down their arms; I
believe there still would be armed gangs, pirates of the high sea's, and a
few armed dictators world wide. :scrutiny:

Great job again Oleg. The disparity between the hand sizes is a nice touch.

Huh? You must be kidding?

No painkillers, heart meds or insulin would make the world a better place?

Or are you you using it the sense of an alcohol, caffeine, THC, etc?

I dont think the world would be better off in either circumstance...

I agree with my friend Waywatcher, as DRUG's are a big problem;
NOT guns~! ;) :D

Neither guns nor drugs are any problem at all.

People misusing guns is a problem.

Another excellent work, Oleg.

(I really want to find out the plans for that paracord bracelet. I weave paracord for knife fobs, etc., but haven't found the plans for that design.)

We tried a world without guns for like 5,000 years.

It didn't work.

So, we invented guns.

The result isn't utopia, but it's a heck of a lot better.

As I once said to an anti-gun nitwit in usenet:

"You want a world with no guns?

In other words, you want a world ruled absolutely by large, strong men with swords and clubs?

I think we tried that once.

They called it 'The Dark Ages'."

I love the concept, but at a glance, the small fist does not look like it's opposing or being overpowered by the larger one. It looks more like the urban/sports knuckle-touch version of a high-five, as in "Yay! A World Without Guns! We did it!" etc.

I think a tight shot of a large muscle-bound arm with a woman's neck and chest filling the frame in a headlock, strained fingers clutching futilely at the arm, and just her mouth (in a grimace) and chin visible at the top of the frame would be more effective.

I suppose it works if the initial misapprehension is what you want, that the fists look like "unity" or congratulatory at frst, then you realize what is really meant as the viewer reads the bottom text. But I think with visual media like this you've got just a split second to make your point and the viewer needs to be beaten over the head with it.

Awesome image by Oleg Volk, and that is an awesome article by Dave Kopel.

I wish folks could see what they are actually wishing for.

I like it. But it needs the definite article, "the" before "strong." That is, "The strong molest the weak."

Well done again, Oleg....

I think a tight shot of a large muscle-bound arm with a woman's neck and chest filling the frame in a headlock, strained fingers clutching futilely at the arm, and just her mouth (in a grimace) and chin visible at the top of the frame would be more effective.

...or maybe a large hand around a small throat...

Imagine a word without Oleg Volk.

Now THAT'S scary.... :what:

I will re-shoot that image with the large hand around the tiny wrist instead. Straight up size comparison isn't working. Will try to refine the captions, if possible.

How about:

IMAGINE A WORLD WITHOUT GUNS!

(image)

- The strong dominate the weak.
- The man overpowers the woman.
- The young abuse the old.
- The predator overcomes the child.

The gun IS EQUALITY. The gun IS CIVILIZATION.

Imagine a world without firearms.
Fear,
Domination,
Torture,
Terror,
Death.

Atilla the Hun would agree.

Look to the recent genocide in Africa. The weapons of choice were machetes, bricks and sticks. They didn't have to waste their precious ammo if they were murdering unarmed women and children.

Imagine a World Without Guns.

Been there, done that.

We called it the Dark Ages.

Guns ensure that the weak and civilized can meet the large and ruthless on equal terms.

They are quite literally the basis of civilization.

We've got some great ideas, here.

I'd start with "Imagine a World Without Guns" at the top of a picture like this:

"A large hand around a small throat." Or even better, a smallish woman, her face a little bruised, cowering before a large, well-built man, both unarmed. Preferably, they would be in some sort of period garb, to remind the viewer that we've already tried a world without guns.

And at the bottom, "The gun IS EQUALITY. The gun IS CIVILIZATION."

Oleg, I'd actually drop the text below.

Just the two fists make all the statement that's required.

"Hey, Dudeacus..what time is it?"

"Judging by the shadows, we've been dying for 45 minutes."

"Dang, I wish we'd just bleed out and get it over with."

"Yeh, if I could reach my arm over by the tree I'd beat myself to death."

A world without guns would ensure a slow, painful death. As mentioned, "Braveheart" shows that most graphically.

Great work, Oleg...as usual!

We tried a world without guns for like 5,000 years.

It didnít work.

So, we invented guns.

The result isnít utopia, but it's a heck of a lot better.

You may want to elaborate on that thought before you use it as support for firearms.
