This is a triumph of technology over common sense. Ask yourself why this brand new model is on sale??????

It's a 29 ounce .44 mag:evil:

Lots of folks have expressed an interest in one, me included. I might not shoot it with any 250 Keiths at 1500fps, but Keiths at 1200 fps sound just about right to me.

Seems like an awfully good backpacking gun, if there's a chance of black bear around

My thoughts exactly Tex,

I handload and have no intention of breaking any velocity records when I get mine. I'm thinking 225's or 240's max at 1100-1200 fps. Will it buck? Hell yes! Will it hurt like a 454? Not mine! For "social work" (what a stupid euphanism for shooting at people) ProLoad puts out a 200 grain Gold Dot load @ 1150 fps. PERFECT! In fact, it duplicates my 45 Super load I use in my 625.

Just bought one today. It certainly lets you know it's there, but I find it controllable.

Like you Tex, I bought it with backpacking in mind, and I'm hard-pressed to find any flaws with the firearm or the logic.

Too early to give a complete working opinion, but I'll let you know as time goes by.

The key to this gun is rubber grips that cover the backstrap, preferably hi-tech material like Decelerators.

With Decelerators, mine is comfortable with 250s @ 1000, Not too bad with 250s @ 1300, and usable (i.e. you can shoot it accurately but it is fairly unpleasant) with 320s @ 1200.

Your other .44s are for the range. The 329 is to carry all the time, and to shoot 3 cylinders every trip to the range to remind you how to shoot it well. If I could have only one .44 it wouldn't be a 329, but the .329 is the one that's with me now when shooting is not the primary activity.

It is an amazing gun with proper grips and I have sold over a dozen of them to people who agree with my analysis.

Over 500 rounds through mine so far.

well, I handled one yesterday...nice feel to it and pretty comfortable grips. Since I just bought a new stick-shooter for archery season, I will have to wait awhile for a 329. Actually, come to think of it, at a list of $917 I will wait for a sale, too.

Jerryd-what kind of sale price are they offering?

John Ross-Are the grips the same as 629?
Do you feel the gun can tolerate the 1300fps loads?
Will the gun fit holsters for the 629?
How do you like the sights?

It does seem silly to have wood grips for this gun. Maybe its for shooting .44spl loads. TIA.

Its the hottest selling pistol in Alaska. I find the wood grips to feel better than the rubber ones. I have shot it several times with HSM 320s and subjectively it kciks less than my Mountain Gun.

Grips are N-frame round butt, same as 629. Frame and cylinder are same dimensions as steel guns. Barrel (shroud) has flats milled on sides and an underlug.

My gun has tolerated over 500 full magnum loads so far with no ill effects.

It has a full underlug (I hate these, but the one on the 329 is less bad than others) so your holster needs to be for a 4" underlug gun like the 629 Classic.

Hi-Viz are great for quick target acquisition, but the round shape and V-notch give about 1 1/2"-2" less precision at 25 yards. I think they're a good choice on this gun. If you don't like them S&W can change them.

Saw one of these the other day at the local shop and was very impressed.

Even the little insert in the top strap that must be there in an attempt to avoid flame cutting.

It's light, it's comfortable, it's dead sexah, I love the fiber optic front sight, and I think it's the first new production S&W revolver that I actually REALLY like. The S&W 629 Stealth Hunter was a handgun I kinda liked but I have no use for something that monsterous or expensive when I could just go get a nice 29-2 and be even more happy. But I'm sitting here considering selling off my 29-3 and using the proceeds to put towards a nice discount on a 329.
