I scan knifeforums.com once in a while. Recently some person or persons unknown has been emailing members of that forum & offering prime Randall knives for way-below-market-value prices. This unknown is somewhere in Russia. Smelling a scam, nobody has taken the plunge yet.

A couple of days ago on eBay, a brand new seller from Russia offered a number of very nice Randalls. Too bad the photos & descriptions were copied straight from other auctions by 'real' sellers. When I checked earlier today, eBay had axed the phantom auctions.

Is this the beginning of the eastern European version of the "Nigerian millions" scam?

It's always something...

This happens all the time with fountain pens, my other collecting obsession. It's a big tip off if they only accept forms of payment that can't be recalled, like wire transfers. You could try offering to do it through escrow, but they will probably refuse that too.
