After Trying out a few loads at the range last weekend .I settled on my RRA
AR-15 favorite combo for the brass,powder,bullets that I had on hand,after which I proceeded to Load up all the several hundred rounds of empties I had in my once fired brass bucket.
after finishing up all the loading today I find myself wanting to buy New Brass just to keep loading more:( Am I nuts? I really should just go out and now shoot the 450 rounds I loaded today or even some of the thousands of milsup
ammo I have around but Noooooooo I want to keep reloading and figure the shooting can come later,, Tell me this is normal for someone new to handloading and having great success and fun doing so .

Sadly but true it is normal. I have all my 44 mag, 40 S&W, 9mm, .223, 22-250, & 30-06 loaded up. Nearly 10,000 rounds. So what did I do today , go and buy a 357 SIG barrel for my H&K and ordered 2,000 rounds of once fired brass. Now I have to order dies and bushing for my Hornady AP so I can take it out and shoot it next weekend. Now that's nuts.:neener:

It's normal.

A local shop had once fired 223 on sale for $20/1000 a while back. It took 2 trips with a handtruck to get what I bought to the truck. Right now I have a couple 5 gallon buckets of empty 38 special brass(cost me about $60 total) that need my attention.

So, be patient, wait for the deals to come by. Then snap them up when they do.

totally normal. during winter i had boxes and boxes of ammo ready to go. Now i only have 3 boxes 150 rounds. then you get lazy and it seems like it takes forever to load them again. right now im just concentrating on building my component supplies. Powder, primers and bullets. as soon as i get them high enough i will start to prep the cases and do a count on what i have

yep... i'm guilty of buying brass sometimes just because i like reloading!! hell once i even bought dies and brass to reload 9mms and i don't or never did have a pistol to shoot em in:what: ...... reloading is a great, fun part of shooting to me!!

You make it sound like going to the range just to pick up brass (or in my case shotgun hulls) so that you have more to reload is wrong somehow. :scrutiny: ;)

I always pick up more than I shoot, that is how you build surplus brass! Then you can be picky about what cases you use.:)

My reloading mentor always told me to have 2k of empties for every pistol caliber and 1k for every rifle. An AR definately warrants more than a 1000 empties. I say bite the bullet and order up 2-3k OR just shoot more often!

Through the years, I've picked up quite a bit of 10mm nickel-plated brass from the range floor, and have been reloading them using my Lee 10mm/40S&W dies. I'm now up to several hundred reloaded 10mm cartridges.

Problem is, I don't own a 10mm firearm.

But it's such a shame to see all that shiny, once-fired 10mm nickel-plated brass just laying on the floor, doing absolutely nothing, begging to be reloaded...

That's funny. Loading calibers you can't even shoot! I think that 'condition' only sounds crazy to people that don't reload. I'm thinking about doing the same thing with .30 carbine because I have a steady source of free brass!!

I'm rolling on the floor laughing out loud as I read through this thread - because I'm doing the same thing!!

Two weeks ago we found a common shooting spot against one of the hills - tons of brass on the ground so I collected about 1000 pieces of .223. Went back this week and some one else had already collected the other calibers!!

I walked the entire rifle range this past weekend and picked up every bright case I could see - I only reload .308 but I'll be reloading .223 next.
