Texas Governor signs pro gun package.

According to Texas State Rifle Assn. they received a call from the governors office.
Now should be easier to get a non resident license and recreational motor/homes/ campers are now legal for carry without a license.
SB501 disrespects state and city governments that have stuck all those 30.06 criminal tresspass signes on their offices, convention centers and zoos. I suspect that the whining from the leftists about not being able to post police stations and city halls is nonsence since they house court business, jail facilities and government meetings
From TSRA: ".....This has been a long and hard-fought battle to get approval on these measure, especially SB 501. Instead of the "usual suspects" in Austin, the anti-gunners with little funding and no respect, we faced a well-organized, well-respected and very wealthy foe in the Texas Municipal League..."

The TML shills for all the petty tyrants at the city and county level. Those little creeps really hate it when they can't order the proles around in lockstep...

I suppose it's natural for them not to want to give up any power. Unfortunately, people interested in government - local and otherwise- are a wierd combination of poorly constituted sissy and bully.
they really are scared in Houston where the city government apparently goes out of its way to mistreat the proletariat.

Does this package include the law that lets new residents apply for CCW as soon as they get there?
If so, that is definately a sign from the Lord that I am to move to Texas :)

The way I read the law, even if a local government rents space in a building they own to a third party, it will not be possible for the third party to enforce a 30.06 ban. Both the HGC and High Caliber gun shows here in Houston are held on city property. Both currently post 30.06 signs. Will Houston now refuse to rent space to gun shows? I wouldn't put it past Lee Brown...

All that seems right. You can apply as a non resident as soon as you hit the state. Also you can keep your non resident until such time as your own state establishes reciprocity - in the past the revoked the non resident as soon as the home state passed ccw.
I do believe the law specifies buildings rented/leased by the state. they all are I believe as state agencies can't own buildinggs outright.
Probably ought to have a 51% sign banning carry if 51 % of the employees are mental defectives and 51% of them are at work that day. In any case, the law still allows them to have work rules against ccw. They just won't be able to eff with the general public.

Both the HGC and High Caliber gun shows here in Houston are held on city property
The HGCA shows are at the Reliant Hall which is owned by Harris County, not the city of Houston.

TSRA Members,
Today we received great news of an important victory. Rather than wait
passively on the defense, your TSRA legislative team took the offensive
this year at the Texas State Capitol. Today, their labors bore fruit.
I am pleased to report the following:
Governor Rick Perry has signed into law SB 501 by Senator Armbrister
(D-Victoria) and Rep. Suzanna Gratia Hupp (R-Lampasas) clarifying for
Texas Concealed Handgun Licensees again in law that it's the Texas
Legislature that regulates the wearing of firearm in Texas. This
landmark legislation corrects the loophole in law that allowed cities,
counties and other governmental entities to threaten Texas CHL's with
prosecution for criminal trespass if they entered certain properties
owned or managed by those entities.
Also signed was HB 3477 by Rep. Jack Stick (R-Austin) which moves the
responsibility for concealed handgun reciprocity agreements between
Texas and other CHL states from the Department of Public Safety to the
Texas Attorney General's office. This legislation will also stop the
confiscation of out of state TX CHL holder's licenses when their state
passes their own Concealed Handgun Law and allow them to renew their
Texas license until such time as reciprocity with Texas is achieved.
Also signed was HB 284 by Rep. Dan Ellis (D-Livingston) will allow a
handgun to be carried by an eligible adult in their travel trailer or
recreation vehicle as an extension of their home. Rep. Ellis worked on
this legislation in passed sessions and was successful in this one.
This is added to our previous success on HB 1704 by Rep. Larry Taylor
(R-The Woodlands) which was signed into law on June 18. This law will
allow new residents to Texas to apply for their Texas Concealed Handgun
License under the nonresident section of Texas Concealed Handgun Law.
All legislation will be effective Sept. 1, 2003
This has been a long and hard-fought battle to get approval on these
measure, especially SB 501. Instead of the "usual suspects" in Austin,
the anti-gunners with little funding and no respect, we faced a
well-organized, well-respected and very wealthy foe in the Texas
Municipal League. That we prevailed in the struggle is ample testimony
to the effectiveness of our lobbying force in Austin. I personally told
Alice how proud I am of her, and I hope that all of our members will do
the same. In conjunction with Tara Mica of the NRA, Alice has done
fantastic work in Austin, and we have every reason to be proud of her.
In addition, the numerous faxes, letters and phone calls from thousand
of dedicated supporters of the Second Amendment were a key factor in the
fact that we emerged victorious from this struggle. The thanks of our
organization, as well as my personal thanks, goes out to all who weighed
in on this issue with their elected officials, and those who took the
time to go to the polls to help elect the legislature, Lieutenant
Governor and Governor who made this happen.
I hope that all of those who helped will take a well-deserved bow! We
have a great team, and I hope we will continue to have this level of
success in the future. We have a special session coming up in just a
few days, and another round of elections in the near future. We must
all be aware of the fact that while we have won a significant victory,
our struggle to defend the Second Amendment is an ongoing struggle that
will never end, so we must not let our guard down.
