Hello Everyone,

I've read some very good things about the AR-10s and AR-15s from DPMS; however, I have absolutely no experience with the brand.

Does anyone here own one or perhaps fired one?

If yes, what was your impression of its quality and performance?

What kind of accuracy were you able to achieve?

How does it compare to other brands of AR-15s in your opinion?

Thanks for the help.

- Anthony

Great guns. Chuck Taylor gave them a great review a couple months ago in one of the gun rags. My AR-15 has had zero problems so far ... and I don't expect any.

I have 3 and all have functioned perfectly. Better finish than Bushy, IMHO....

Pleased with mine. Not a single problem through several hundred rounds.

Some of the DPMS AR15s have been the unfortunate recipients of bad bolts, the chrome plated bolts in particular being prone to breaking.

There was a bad lot of bolts some time back supposedly and a person has to wonder of DPMS wound up with some of them.

The DPMS-308 is said to be a consistent sub-MOA performer. Not really an AR10..... Since Armalite has the trademark to the AR10 name :)

I have the DPMS Classic Sixteen, 16" carbine. The fit and finish on this rifle is excellent. Has great accuracy and reliability. Paid $675 for mine. Checked out 3 different Bushy's at 2 different shops before I settled on this. The fit anf finish was that much better. Hell, the guy behind the counter could have "upsold" me into the Bushy that was a little more money, but stated for quality you can't beat the DPMS. Mine was an extra from a large order that was placed by several small PD's that pulled together to buy AR's. The company also has excellent after purchase service.

Wow! Those are some positive comments!

How do you feel DPMS's quality compares to other companies offering AR-15s?

Who is making AR-15s in the same price range that are better than DPMS, or are they the best for the money?

If going with a DPMS AR15, go with one of the forged lowers.

DPMS offers both cast and forged lower options now and the forged really is worth the extra money. I have a DPMS cast stainless steel lower for my custom rifle, the thing is strong as all heck thanks to the steel construction but due to it being a casting some of the tolerances aren't quite as precise as what you'd find with a forged/milled lower receiver.

Specifically, the magazine well with some cast guns can be a bit tight and the dimensions fluctuate a little bit. Not all mags will be "drop free" in cast lower receivers and some will downright not want to fit if it's just the right combination of out of spec magazine mixed with out of spec magazine well.

With forged lowers this is generally not of issue because the magazine well gets broach cut and the result is generally very consistent from one production run to another.

That's really about all I have in the way of "gripes" for DPMS.

A good friend and Master class shooter is having problems with making one group. No word yet on why.

I compaired a BM and a DPMS side by side...

Liked the finish on the DPMS more, but I liked the contour's and lines of the BM more. It might have just been the model, but the BM had a dustcover and shell deflector and the DPMS didnt.

I had a DPMS and ended up trading it----consistent problems, re: functioning and accuracy. The finish on the DPMS is better than the BM, but not as good as the Colt. In sum, overall, have had much better luck with Colt's and BM's.

Shai, the DPMS you were looking at, sounds like the Low Pro Classic. Pretty much all of the others have the shell deflector and dustcover.
