Howdy all-
I purchased a Win 101 which has been "jacked up" with gold plating on the trigger guard and all forend iron. Needless to say, it was a steal !
The "gold" is rubbing off, and looks terrible.
Any suggestions on removal?
TIA, Texican

Gold is soft and plating is very thin. Any mildly abrasive rubbing compound should wear it off with a little elbow grease. You might also try strong ammonia. In order for gold to be plated over steel, copper is plated first. Ammonia dissolves copper, but the gold will protect the copper from it so I don't know how well it'll work. Other than having it deplated, I can't think of anything else to try.
