I have no idea how this thing is choked or how old it is. No sign of a serial number anywhere. The left side is stamped with Stevens Model 311, and under that Savage Arms Corporation, Chicopee Falls Mass. The right side has a small 5100 which I think refers to the series. Under the left chamber is a stamp that looks like DW with a g or s or 5 in a circle. The last part is hard to read. The stock is an ugly brown plastic.

edit: on TFL somebody posted a chart, D was for 1952. I still don't know what the chokes are or if it is safe to use steel shot.

I'd skip steel for this one, use lead where legal and bismuth if you MUST use a nontoxic load.

Until the Gun Control Act of 1968 serial numbers were optional. The Tenite stocks are from the 50s,IIRC.

26" barrel=Improved cylinder left/ modified right.
28" & 30"=Modified choke left/ Full choke right.
32" barrel= full/full

I'm a betting it's a "G" in that circle, making it a 1955 model. Those tenite stocks are just murder on the old shoulder I can tell you. Have kinda a sting to them, hard to explain. Steel shot is a no-no in the old doubles, has a tendancy to crack the weild. Just another reason I hate the lie known as steel shot.
