I'm a first time visitor to The High Road. I am a long time gun enthusiast. I made a site to advocate gun ownership and community. After I built it, I found The High Road. This site is great!

My site is not for commercial gain, I only wish to share my passion for firearms with my fellow citizens.

Here is my site URL http://www.rangemonkey.com

I welcome any comments or suggestions.

Thanks,

Tony

Welcome to the forum. I have not heard people mention the Springfield, but I spend most of my time in the General Discussions. Try some of the other areas.

Sounds like you were going to by a new 45, how did it turn out?

Zmp, I tried to register to no avail. The link posted on the email would not come up to complete registration. Too bad, I was looking forward to joining. Never mind- I figured it out. Got registered.... finally

Good deal Don. Welcome aboard!

I still don't know what to get for a new gun. I wish I could afford to get all of the ones that I want. It is tough to pick one with so many great handguns on the market. It is a good problem to have! I'll give everyone a report once I buy something and shoot it, and shoot it, and shoot it, and shoot it!

Have a great day!

I'll have to figure out why I have to have one and then sell her on it. We'll see what happens. Wish me luck!

Keep the ideas coming! She is not a big gun fan. She is understanding of why we have guns in the home, but she still is afraid of them. I am trying to educate her and get her out to the range. Slowly, but surely I am not making any ground lol. I'll keep trying.

My wife was not real crazy about guns. Then we opened our business to the public.
I then took her out to the gun shop, and we picked her up a .38spl snubbie.
She loved it. I think it's when they own their own handgun, and you take the time to take them shopping, and spend like $300-$500 on them, it peaks their interest.
After we bought it, she couldn't wait to get home and take it to the range.
She did very well with it. Then she tried my 44mag with cowboy loads.
She got such a kick out of it, we got her her own.

I think now she wants her own 9mm.

There's no stopping her now!!!!!
We go to the range together at least once a week.
Also her CCW permit arrived yesterday!!!!

That is awesome BBQ! I am going to get a .22 target pistol and very subtly see if my wife will shoot it. Who knows what will happen from there! Thanks for the advice!

My next gun is likely to be the XD45. I have an XD40 and an aftermarket 9 mm barrel. The XD series points very well for me an fits my hand nicely.

I took my wife to the range (indoor - a mistake) and the fellow 2 lanes down was firing a 44 mag. Even though the Ruger 22/45 was no problem for her, the boom of the 44 was just too much. She laid the Ruger down and ran out of the shooting area.

Ron,
How does that 9mm barrel perform? How much was it and where? I've thought about getting one for my XD40. Thoughts?

RonC
June 3, 2007, 12:27 PM
ZMP_CTR,

The Firedragon 9 mm barrel may even be better than the OEM 40 barrel. It was just a drop-in, with no mods necessary.

There is a tremendous amount of information on the XD site about everything having to do with all the XD models. There also is a link to the sites that offer the aftermarket barrels. You can get a 357 sig barrel for the 40 as well.
http://www.hs2000talk.com/
If you are at all confused by the hs2000, that was the original incarnation of the XD series before Springfield became involved.
The danger of accessing the sites that offer parts and accessories for the XD series is that it is easy to have to re-fi your home to afford all the goodies you may want to buy.:D

I've recently added an S&W 686-3, police turn-in, and a Springfield GI that has been doctored to add sights large enough for my 60 year old eyes and a 4 lb trigger.
I have a 1943 M1 Garand, my little piece of history and just like the one my father carried during the Anzio invasion. Another is a model 1873 Springfield Trap-door and original bayonet that, with a missing chunk of stock on the left side, is a wall hanger - if my wife would let me hang it on the wall.
I would like to add a WW II carbine and an M98 Mauser some day. Of course an AR15 M4 would be nice, as would an M14 (M1A). I haven't touched an M16 derivative since 1969.
