The Profiler had a sniper using a .50 BMG breech-loading single-shot with a 'silencer' that looked exactly like a compensator. This guy was shooting in an enclosed area without hearing protection, too.

The .50 BMG may be as powerful as a Desert Eagle!

I'm not surprised. That's why they're so evil and need to be banned!

I love the CSI shows. I need to call the local PD and tell them they need to upgrade or I'm not paying taxes anymore. It's dumb that they have all this really cool technology (where you can identify the criminal within 10 seconds of analyzing a crime scene using special flashlights) and my PD is wasting my tax dollars spending all their time doing things the old fashioned way. Sheesh.

How expensive could it be for them to get a couple kits with some sprays, flashlights, and other modern-age tools? You know?

Only thing that worries me is that I didn't realize that in Miami, there is a record of all guns by owner and their rifling, and size, and caliber, and location (by GPS). Thankfully CSI: Miami set me straight on that.

:what: Yup, six inches of tempered steel, and leaving a hole every inch or so to make a door-sized outline, the thugs were able to use a battering ram to knock it down (as if the remaining steel wouldn't be enough to thwart anyone short of THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN or SUPERMAN):scrutiny: :scrutiny:
It's TV, where the .50BMG is a magicbullet that can knock down a 747 at 38,000 feet. :uhoh: --OR-- blow up an oil tanker!:what: Or maybe, if shot at earth from a space station, throw the earth off it's orbit and start a volcano!
And we don't even have phasers or photon torpedos yet.......

this is why the 50 has a bad reputation. its not the use of it in crime, it is the perceived use for crime.

.50 BMG is a magic round. Just look what happened to this outdoor range when somebody brought their Barret.

perception beats reality every time.

It's not just the cops, the Military's getting gypped also.

The guns recoil, and the ammo don't do that!:what:

Actually, if you looked closely, they were using hearing protection...

They must've fired something like 100-200 rounds at the door to make the hole (instead of being smart and shooting a mousehole). I didn't see them hauling around multiple ammo cans with the rifle. According to the US Army, reinforced concrete requires 100 rounds to make a mousehole. It *might* have been feasible if the door were constructed of just two thin sheets of steel with space or softer material inbetween.

Of course, one wonders where the projectiles went after going through the door...

As a person who does labratory analytical work for a living, I have to say most of the CSI stuff they show on TV is pretty much crap. Not necessarily the techniques and methods they employ, but rather the system that uses the results. It's not all rah, rah team, let's get the bad guy. It's more like, here's a job, do the analysis, generate us a report.

It is not very likely that the guy in the lab even knows which case he's working on other than he got some file with the job request and very little if any background on what it's needed for.

Plus, when the heck have you seen a civil servant in a damn H2. Hollywood is so full of it.

CSI: Meeyammi is the worst- they doctor the shots of Miami to include buildings that arn't there- they digitally clean up locations- they are all dressed like super models- at- work. And they have the worst writers in television today. Good lord

Having worked in R&D and depending on laboratory reports, I think the most far fetched part is the same day service. Notice there are never any other samples in the analyzers, no request forms in the in basket, and it is a major owie when the hero does not get his answers right away.

Or maybe, if shot at earth from a space station, throw the earth off it's orbit and start a volcano!

Considering the fact that the mass of the earth is far greater than that of the space station, the resultant momentum transfer when the trigger is pulled would move the space station out of orbit substantially. :neener: That would be a very energetic bullet... :neener:

EDIT: Oh yeah, tv makes you dumb.

I heard the .50BMG can cure cancer, and even helps Roses grow faster! I have even heard that Jesus himself endorses the .50BMG as his Rifle of choice!

CSI :barf:

I wonder what portion of the maroons that watch it actually believe that what is portrayed is an accurate depiction of a real CSI team's capabilities?

[wolf brand chili commercial voice] Well - that's too many!
