I finally got all the pieces together. I had been waiting for the rings - the scope arrived early in the week. It has been torture wating for FedEx. It has been cleaned and is ready to shoot. Hopefully will get to sight it in Sunday. I will post pics of the targets.

The scope is a Bushnell Scopechief 6-20x40. I think it is just the right size for this rifle. A larger objective might look a little oversize. Scope is really nice and bright. Natchez still has some for a pretty good price. Scope rings were the standard CZ rings. I wish the gun came with the rings like the American version does. Nice rings though.
Here is a shot of the mag. Someone mentioned that their CZ-550 had a plastic follower. This one is all metal. I ordered an extra and it is the same, but is not engraved .223 - nice high quality mags.

It comes this way from the factory. I looked on HS's site and could not find a reference to it. They must build them directly for CZ. I know they make the stocks for some Remington factory models too.
Here is the blurb from the CZ site.

The other varmint model is a real nice laminated stock, but it currently only comes with the 1:12 twist rate. At some point CZ is supposed to change all .223 models over to the 1:9.

makarov,
That's interesting that different models have different twist rates. Can I ask where you found that out? Not doubting you, just curious.
Best,
Joe

It was mentioned on the cz forum, the first 250 produced use the same barrel as the CZ-527 Varmint with the laminate stock - all current production use the 1:9 twist. CZ-USA confirmed it.

Makarov,
I have that same scope on my Savage 10 FP. How do you like it and how many trips to the range have you made with it.
I noticed that mine doesn't keep a good zero from trip to trip. But it could be the way it was mounted also.

I have only had it out once so far. Shot about 150 rounds of various ammo. Stay away from the Hot Shot SS109 stuff. Well, you might have better luck with it. The Sellier & Bellot 55 grain grouped very well for me. Same with the cheap $3.50 for 20 rounds PMC ammo.
One thing I learned is that this rifle is much more accurate than I am. 100 yards away and I was still wishing I had a more powerful scope and a better rest. Next time I go I'll have to get a better system. I was just using my duffel bag that I use for a range bag. It seemed pretty solid, but I was supporting the buttstock. Found it pretty hard to hold a steady shot at 100 yards. Single set trigger is pretty sweet. Best 5 shot group was a clover leaf of 3 and two others that were an inch on either side. So the whole group was about 2" - I know the gun can do better. Next time I'm going out with a friend that is a better shot, and a bunch of lead shot bags that I use for scuba diving, they should make a nice steady rest.
Since the rifle was keyholing the cheap ss109 stuff I started to wonder if it was really a 1:9 twist. Tried the patch through the bore and marked off 9" on the new Dewey rod I bought. It seemed to take more than 9" to make a complete revolution, but there must be some slippage. I e-mailed CZ with my serial number and they confirmed that my gun has the 1:9, so I will try some other bullets in the heavier weights. Local shop has a bunch of Black Hills reloads in 68 grain. As I mentioned the 55 grain stuff is cheap and seemed to group very well when I did my part.
Scope performed well. Eye relief is pretty specific, you have to be in just the right position for a good view. Otherwise was bright and clear with precise adjustments. I'm now wanting a more powerful scope, I thought 20x would bring the target up much closer at 100 yards.
Anyway, I had a great time and burned up a bunch of ammo. I don't think I could afford to shoot an AR! Most of the time I was loading them one at a time, and I still went through the ammo pretty fast.

with a MSRP of : $776
what did it really cost you?
very nice looking.
next time, try shooting off a rucksack instead of a bipod. and put a sock full of sand or very small rocks under the butt of the rifle.
i love the set triggers on the CZ rifles.

I was using a duffel bag, but supporting the back myself. I really need to practice more. Bipod was on for pictures.
I paid $570 plus transfer fees and ten bucks shipping. Most expensive gun I have purchased to date. The set trigger is nice. I need to take the gun apart and adjust the trigger. It is adjustable for weight and overtravel and takeup. The set trigger is also adjustable. Right now the regular trigger is a little creepy and heavy.
