That's it, I'm going to be "cool."

After successfully burning my fingertips (again) from the barrel of my mossy 590, I'm getting the heatshield. Tonight was just too much (again).
I can empty one tube full, (8 shots), and that sucker will remove fingerprints if you are not careful! Is the marinecote finish suppose to get hot quicker than a standard blue barrel? Anyone with a heatshield able to tell how much heat is dispursed compared to without?

If you NEED it, get it.
Remember the rule. If it helps you direct the shot to the target in comfort, it's worthwhile.

Still not sure if I need the shield or if I need to work on how I hold it. However, 2 others commented Friday night on a burning sensation in the fingertips after shooting my 590.
Heat shield is only $30, I'll give it a try.

Why don't you just keep your finger tips off the barrell.

I have a heat shield on mine for the same reason (seared off my fingerprints).
I know better than to grab a hot barrel, but unintended touchs happen.

Reminds me of when the South African Defence Force adopted the SS77 general-purpose machine-gun (GPMG). It was designed as a replacement for the FN GPMG, and also replaced several other models still floating around (Browning .30 calibers, a few Vickers, some odd Brens - all converted to NATO 7.62x51mm. - etc.). The new GPMG had no heat shield, and when Soldier of Fortune magazine reviewed it (and called it possibly the best GPMG in existence), they asked "Why not? The M60 has a heat shield to stop soldiers burning their hands on the barrel."
The SADF's response was "Our soldiers will burn their hands on the barrel - ONCE. After that, it's not a recurring problem!" :D
Of course, the design saved quite a bit of weight and bulk by leaving off the heat-shield...

Why don't you just keep your finger tips off the barrell Smart a..:uhoh:...butt. ;)
It's when my left hand reaches for the forearm, my fingertips end up on the barrell naturally. After just a few rounds, it's just dang hot and I quickly remember to adjust my grip!

Awww, I thought for sure somebody would weigh in here with the "water cooled" option!
