And the Oscar goes to...

January 7, 2003, 09:44 PM
Ok, who are the coolest looking actor and actress with a gun? One vote for each. Never mind the proper gun handling, just rating the "cool" factor.

I would have to say Angelina Jolie and Bruce Willis (ok, so maybe it's Michael Gross).

Actor: John Wayne in the final scene of True Grit. "Fill your hand!" Winchester & Colt SAA

Actress: Kathleen Turner in the "sugar mill" scene in Undercover Blues. BAM! BAM! (two bad guys wielding flame throwers bite the dust). Cop: "Jeez! Where are you FROM?!?!?" Turner: "North Adams, Massachusetts. Why?" Ruger P90.

Honorable Mention: Jamie Lee Curtis with an Uzi in True Lies. Yeah, she dropped the weapon down the stairs, but she looked good doing it. :)

Val Kilmer in Tombstone. Tough choice for me when it comes to the ladies. Mina Sorvino or Lucy Liu.

January 7, 2003, 10:56 PM
Well, Clint Eastwood seems to tote them around rather naturally. Not sure if he would win the 'coolest' award. For the sheer cool factor, and I'm no fan of his acting (dis)abilities, might go to Keneau Reeves in The Matrix.

For the women, Angelina comes to mind as does Famke Janssen in Golden Eye.

Several of the above are right up there for me too. I'd elabrate on Dirty Harry--the "do ya feel lucky, punk. Well do ya?" was pretty cool, including the footage right before where he's choking down his sandwich/hot dog, firing into the perp's windshield. The later long shot across the football field was iffy but cool. (But that .458 Win. rifle choice was from another planet.) Although I tend to favor autos in real life revolvers can be much more tactile and interesting in films. Well, what can you do with a Glock on screen that lends itself to visual or auditory interest? Guess that's why autos have to go clickety-click and have their slides racked all the time. They look cool--arguably--but are uncinematic. There seem to be more revolvers coming back to movies, especially those big-bore short barreled models from S&W. Very nasty looking and camera-friendly. One new nomination here: Taxi Driver. Powerful and not gun-stupid.

Geena Davis, Milla Jovovich are both up there..

I don't know all the new players, forgot names of some of the movies--Feel Better?

January 8, 2003, 04:57 AM
If you thought The Replacement Killers was cool, go check out some of Chow Yun Fat's Chinese-language films. There's a scene in Hard Boiled where he slides down a rope with a MP5 in one hand and mows down half the bad guys before he hits the ground. He then proceeds to lay some serious smack-down with a rather large revolver (can't recall model/caliber). Good stuff there.

As for the ladies... I vote Famke Janssen as well.

Calamity Jane

Male: Clint Eastwood. Pretty much anything he's in, but I'm especially partial to The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Female: Sigourney Weaver rocked in Aliens: "Get away from her, you (word that rhymes with 'itch'!)" She's an anti in real life, though - bleh. :banghead:

I would have to go with Clint Eastwood's character in either "Unforgiven" or "Pale Rider". The aforementioned Racquel Welch movie for the distaff gun toter vote.

January 10, 2003, 01:48 PM
Clint Eastwood all the way

Angelina Jolie - Even though she's a fruit cake, the image of her as Laura Croft makes me want to do naughty things.

Dean Speir
January 10, 2003, 02:07 PM
Patricia Arquette in True Romance and (tie) James Cann in Thief and Robert DeNiro in Heat, Taxi Driver or Ronin, with the aforecited Geena Davis a close female second.

Two words.

John Wayne.

Yes, all these other actors are great, but the Duke made firearms handling natural. Mainstream.

Even in hoplophobic **********, the statue of John Wayne in the Orange County airport has a Peacemaker on his hip. Even they couldn't portray him without a firearm.

He was cool with a firearm before before fancy firearms handling was cool.

January 10, 2003, 02:25 PM
i cant believe no ones said benicio del toro, way of the gun.

for the ladies i'd have to say nicole kidman, in 'the others' when she loads up the double barreled. she holds it all wrong, but still....

edit... or what about dana scully in the x-files when they went into that virtual reality combat and she strapped on the 'light' guns and gear. something about redheads makes me all giddy. :D

another cool scene would be in 'natural born killers' when Mallory (juliet lewis) has the reporter put his hand up and she blows a hole through it. the directors cut of that scene is even more enjoyable.

Average Guy
January 10, 2003, 02:26 PM
Steven Seagal in Above the Law (shootout at the meat packinghouse)

Michelle Yeoh in Project S (Supercop 2)

January 10, 2003, 02:36 PM
Best was at the beginning of Terminator II when he took the bartender's shotgun and sunglasses and hopped on the Fat Boy.

And don't forget the made-for-TII Colt Combat Elite 1911A1. ;)

January 10, 2003, 03:34 PM
I would have to say Chow Yun Fat for the male.

Female? Probably Rachel Weisz in Enemy at the Gates.

Unless we could pick animated characters. That's a whole other game...

January 10, 2003, 03:47 PM
Well ceestand, since you opened the door...

If you want to include animated charecters, than I am changing my female vote to Rally Vincent, from Gunsmith Cats.

January 10, 2003, 03:53 PM
My sentiments exactly priv8ter.
