What is it that makes this Kel-Tec legal?

Since it folds from the barrel I guess this isn't effected by the 94 Assault Weapon Ban?

Kel-Tec Sub 2000:

Anyways, is it a decent gun? For only $300 I'm thinking it'll be a nice addition and since I don't have anything in 9mm yet, why not!? :)

The weapon cannot be fired while folded.

you can do beter than $300 on price too. just shop around your home town and you'll probably find one in the $250-$280 range. but yes, they are fun and a good bargain.

What kind of stores carry these? The usual place I go only had one in .40S&W and they want $299 for it. I want 9mm and don't want to pay $299 for it if I can get it for $270. I don't suppose places like Big 5 have them do they?

Oh, and what about the mags. Is it true that the gun comes with no magazines? I know it uses Glock mags, but I was told that it comes with none for the $299 price.

Glock mags? I thought it used S&W magazines

I think it depends on the model, Wonder.

What kind of accuracy can you expect out of those things?

It would be worth it if it could do 3-4 MOA

The 40 that I saw said Glock mags. That was actually one of the things that kind of turned me off of it a little more too... I've heard how expensive full-capacity Glock magazines are. I can't stand having only 10 rounds in something when I know it should have the potential for more.

I wanted one that takes beretta mags but they are pretty tough to come by.

I have the previous model, a Sub-9, with S&W grip. It will shoot well within that 4 MOA, but the trigger is much nicer than the Sub-2000.

1. The gun can be configured at the factory to take any of several different existing pistol magazines. Glock and Beretta are two that I'm pretty sure about. There are others.

2. Reviews I've seen indicate that the carbine is very accurate. One researcher tested at 25 yards and commented that he should have carried out his test at 50 yards or more. Can't remember group sizes, sorry.

I have one, a 9mm setup to take S&W 59 series mags. Mine has proven extremely reliable, functioning flawlessly even when seriously dirty. The only feeding problems exhibited themselves with the factory 10rnd mag supplied with the rifle. All of the misc standard and enhanced capacity mags have worked 100%. Accuracy is better than most other 9mm carbines I have used Feather, Uzi, Ruger, Marlin, High Point) and on par with Colt 9mm ARs. The H&K94 and Steyr AUG 9mms might beat it but at 10times the cost. With quality ammo, 4MOA is achievable, although the sights are a bit coarse at long range. At 50yds and closer the peep is easy to aquire rapidly and gives precise accuracy.

Inspite of what some people on this forum are predicting, the 16" barrel doesn't significantly add to the velocity of the 9mm round. It might bump a 9mm standard velocity round up to +P velocity, or make a +P round equivalent to a low end .357, but it doesn't turn it into a .223. Trajectory is largely the same, although the shoulder stock and longer sighting radius add to the practical accurate range vs a 9mm service pistol.

I purchased it on Gunbroker when they were first released and paid $280 total. I've seen them as low as $250 before FFL and shipping fees.

It might be worth waiting a month or so to see how the Beretta CX-4s turn out, and if their release affects the price of the Kel-Tec.
