My Garand needs a new barrel. I got a great replacement off of Auction Arms. Now I need an expert to install it. I'd prefer not to ship the weapon. Can anyone recommend an experienced smith in the Massachusetts/New Hampshire area?

Although I have worked on M1's, replacing a bbl. isn't one of my strong points.
I would suggest you contact the Hanson Rod & Gun Club, which is a CMP
affiliated club, to see if they can assist you in finding a fully qualified G/smith
to do this for you.
Best of luck,

Thanks for the lead, but I decided to send the rifle to Fulton Armory.
Now I have an extra shot-out and pitted barrel. I've been flirting with the idea of having it reamed out to a larger caliber.

call Dwight at Olde Colonial Gun Shop, Wolfeboro NH 603 569 4844. He knows of a local smith who concentrates on M1s. You can tell him Mike Bowen sent you.

Fulton is pretty expensive and well known for a long wait. They do build a nice rifle, but I'd always go with the local M1 guy (the less time my rifle spends on a UPS truck the better).

My original message was posted over two years ago. The rifle has long since been repaired.
