Cleaning Nickle

So, what do I use to clean my nickle S&W's that won't mess with the nickel? Am I correct in assuming that anything that will act on copper fouling will also act on the finish?
I never had a nickel gun before and now I've got a few and need to clean them. Thanks...

Just to add a bit from the archive. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I've heard that if you do happen to spill any hoppes on the finish to immediately wipe it down with gun oil to prevent it from staining the finish. My dad use to do this with his Python.

Flitz metal polish works wonders on Nickel. Just a dab and some elbow grease and that gun will sparkle and shine.

Electroless nickle is plated directly to the steel, so there's no copper base coat. You should avoid ammonia though as it can cause corrosion. It causes oxidation on chrome too if it's left in contact for hours, so it's best not to use it in chrome lined bores, at least not for a soak.

Simichrome
a German polishing compound that is available at most automotive supply
houses; or from The Western Wood Doctor~! Good stuff, and it only takes
a small amount; but will last about 5 years under normal conditions. ;):D
