But Saddam's 'lifestyle' quality has certainly suffered lately:D

No doubt a lot of people would like to collect the rewards:)

Evidently not Saddam's body parts. Wonder who the victims were!?? Hopefully not a bunch of innocents like the Baghdad restaurant "decapitation" fiasco!

out in the western desert of Iraq on a family picnic....and one of them phoned up the rellies and said "today"...which the targeting command heard as 'Uday'....bingo, more innocent victims:scrutiny:

how those Syrian Guards caught some incoming:scrutiny:

From a BBC story on the action:
****************************************************
"The best break for Task Force 20 has been the recent arrest of one of Saddam's closest aides, his secretary and bodyguard, Abid Hamid Mahmoud al-Tikriti.

He has reportedly told his American interrogators that Saddam Hussein and his sons survived the war.

He has further said that he himself went to Syria with Uday and Qusay Hussein but that they had to return to Iraq after being expelled.

That would fit in with reports at the time that Syria was an intended place of refuge for the Iraqi leadership, despite traditional hostility between the two regimes."
****************************************************
Oh, well....how tough can Syria be?

You've also got to wonder why the Pentagon didn't even admit the event took place until four days later! :scrutiny:

You've also got to wonder why the Syrians aren't making a big deal of their border guards being shot up by a possible US incursion! :scrutiny:

An incident that both the Pentagon and the Syrians don't want to talk about? VERY STRANGE! :scrutiny:

to speculate that the situation is along the path of the U.S. accusing Syria of sheltering senior Iraqi personnel...
Syria saying no we don't, then the U.S. whacks some Iraqi brass either just inside or on their way into Syria....

But then I don't have access to the intelligence resources available to the Administration.

Saddam was either killed months ago, or he's far away living off some Swiss bank accounts. I just don't see him as leading some rag-tag band of rebels. There's no money in it, and it ain't exactly the life of luxury he was used to.

A couple of weeks ago, David Letterman said our government could possibly identify Saddam's remains, as we had a sample of Saddam's DNA. And where did we acquire a sample of Saddam's DNA, you may ask? Monica Lewinsky! :neener:

Even Letterman couldn't keep a straight face after that one. geegee

that the convoy that got hit as it moved into Syria was located via satellite phone transmission intercept, and that it was a voice match for one of the remaining "three aces". I'm wondering if we'll ever hear the results of the DNA tests.

Someone was killed........who was it??!! Don
I heard it was a group of orphan kids ... er ... parentally challenged indivuals with reduced ages ... and nuns on their way to lead a group of optically challenged people through a minefield (made with American supplied kill-death mines, no doubt) when Colin Powell himself bombed the bejunkies out of 'em because they were about to discover the top secret Oil Suck-O-Matic that Dick Cheney had airlifted into Iraq in a move to rape the Iraqi people of the only thing that makes their country worthy of second glance (and, coincidently, allows them to finance "freedom fighters" from around the globe).

The only bad people in Iraq are Saddam and his two boys, and even they're not as bad as Bush and Blair. Saddam only wanted peace and happiness ... sure his methods were a little unorthodox, but you can't argue with results! Better a people be oppressed than be able to get involved with partisan infighting.

Right on, Don! Fight the good fight! I'm with you! Can I be your wacky sidekick?

I haven't heard ANY recent news about this attack. This may be another one of those "whoops" operations that the Pentagon tries to bury down the "memory hole".

The mission WAS approved by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, according to a senior military official. President Bush was made aware of the strike, but it did not require HIS approval.

So if the attack was a complete goat screw, the buck stops with Rumsfeld.

I think this is probably the case or you would be hearing incredible success reports!

When Rumsfeld was asked why it was taking so long for details of the "convoy attack" to be released, he said: “It will happen. I don’t know that anyone needs a reason why it hasn’t happened in five minutes ... or TWO days.”

THREE days have gone by since Mr. Rumsfeld's statement. Still no more information on the attack!

I'd appreciate any explanation you are able to provide for your comments above.

Winter's still the 'good' season in these parts:D

I had planned to go over to the SSAA range to sight in a rifle today, but the wind is gusting out of the northwest and its 30 C. out there:eek:

The Alice is certainly a unique kind of place:)

Oops! Drifted a bit off-topic there....

Well, Don....what if those Iraqi escapees are stacked up like cordwood and the I.D. process is going very slowly? Maybe it's taking them more than three days to match up all the body parts?

Or, perhaps they were Syrian insurgents travelling INTO Iraq to assist with the little insurgency over there. The Syrians, given their current position, would definitely not want to make that widely known, and the U.S. would rather not encourage more Syrian participation by making it known that it had just hashed a convoy of locals.

With the biased and inventive news we get here from the ABC; it could have been the aforementioned nuns and orphan kids on their way to clear minefields.

Dang, Cordex! You don't think they've found out about the 'suck-o-matic' do you?:what:

fallingblock, apparently you don't get it. The reason why the administration has been so slow about giving out details is that the attack was carried out by a joint US-Small-eye Grey Alien task force (TF-51). The reason the small greys are with us is because the Axis of Evil also includes the Large-eye Grey Aliens, who were part of the "convoy." The administration just doesn't want to alarm anybody by parading alien body parts around with that of the Iraqis.

It's all very simple, if you're not getting your hair cut and your brother's not going home, you need to move your clothes to the lower peg before supper, but not if your first name begins with 's'.

And I thought the Australian Broadcasting Company's theories on Iraq were complicated:eek:

O.K., as long as the 'suck-o-matic' technology is being adequately safeguarded...it's important that we get every drop of the Iraqi oil before the rest of the world finds out :scrutiny:

Maybe it's taking them more than three days to match up all the body parts?

It didn't take the US very long to release the 20 or so people they detained. Does this tell you anything?

Looks to me like the operation was a MAJOR "whoops"! Don't blink...... or you'll miss the Pentagon's brief explanation of what happened before it tries to stuff this one down the "memory hole"!

***********************************************************

Golly Don, I thought this here was a WAR to get rid of Saddam....WMD's, whatever and now you start talkin' 'bout "love"

In the immortal lyrics of that old song from my misspent youth:

"What's love got to do with it......" :)

The ''right thing" I refer to is for the U.S. to position itself strategically to facilitate wrecking the plans of the islamofantasists.
I think we're doing mighty fine at that....you may disagree if you choose.

We're forcing them to fight us on their turf instead of ours....bringing out some of those who hate us into the open. Good targeting strategy that, even if perhaps a bit rough on some of the U.S. troops at the scene. I believe that is one of those 'risks of war' so often referred to?

Civilians in a restaurant? Do you know they were civilians? Did they consider themselves Baathists?

As for rioters/protesters?
Same as anywhere else, if the rioters attack, the authority defends. It's all part of the game and if the U.S. stands firm and deals with the insurrectionists, I suspect we'll come out O.K.;) You may disagree again, here____:o

************************************************************Heck, Rumsfeld is probably the best Secretary of Defense since McNamara!
************************************************************

Vastly better, I'd say:D

gburner posted this on another thread, but I reckon it's the best advice I've seen on this issue lately, so I hope it isn't inappropriate of me dragging it over here:

I'm still waiting for confirmation from the Pentagon. Explanation of what happened.

If it had been a successful "decapitation mission", we would have heard all about it by now.

I think ........ they hit a convoy of some low-level smugglers. Possibly killing innocents in the process.

This is an AP quote as reported by FOX News:

U.S. officials have been unable to explain the full circumstances of the clash near the desert border post of Aby Kamal (search), including why houses in a nearby village and the vehicles were struck and who was being targeted.

The five Syrian border guards are going to be returned. But still no explanation of what happened from either Syria or the US. VERY STRANGE! :scrutiny:
