National CCW and Reciprocity Chart

Based on my research on such sites as Packing.org (http://www.packing.org), I have created a chart that illustrates the current state of national CCW issuance and reciprocity.
National CCW and Reciprocity Chart (http://home.attbi.com/~dkantrowitz79/USmapnh.bmp)
Does this look correct?

I dont believe texas allows non resident to get permits. They must be a resident for 6 months

I might not be interpretting your map correctly.
Are all the green states supposed to have reciprocity with each other?

Dev, what do you mean by "full reciprocity"? For example, my state recognizes the license of all states and foreign countries, but our licenses are recognized by only a handful of states. Indiana does not have "full reciprocity" by any means if you are using the definition I was trained with.

I meant to remove the term "full." I'll go do that now.
Edit: The chart has been so modified.
Green means that said state will recognize the permit of any other state. It does not mean that a permit issued there will be accepted elsewhere.

Go to Packing.org (http://www.packing.org) and you'll see that they do.

In that case, then no your map is not correct.
I know North and South Carolina will not accept a Georgia ccw.

North Carolina doesn't accept any out-of-state CCW. TN has reciprocity with about 14 states, but it doesn't automatically recognize an out-of-state CCW. There are a bunch of other states on that map which have limited reciprocity. Very few states recognize CCW permits from any other states.

But in 60 days, NC's newly signed reciprocity law will take effect. It recognizes all licenses/permits from those states that grant recognition to NC's permits. The AG must keep a list and update it annually.

Texas allows non-residents to get CCW permits, only if the state the applicant comes from DOES NOT issue CCW permits at all.
So, Missourians can get a non-resident Texas CCW since MO does not issue CCWs, but Kalifornicators cannot get a non-resident Texas CCW since CA issues CCW (like Satan issues snowballs in Hell). :cuss:

You know what might look cool? A map of the US made with Flash. It could be designed so that when you mouseover a given state it not only displays it's status, but also pops little lines onscreen that connect to all the other states whose permits it recognizes.
Just a thought, anyway.

So states that issue non res. permits do not reconize your home permit?

Matt, not necessarily, it depends upon state law. There is no standard answer. For example, Florida recognizes Indiana licensees however it issues licenses to non-residents.
The problem with surveys is that it is built upon an axiom of criminal law--it depends.:D

LA, VA, and SD have limited reciprocity.
PA has non-resident licenses and limited reciprocity both.
AZ just passed a reciprocity law that should add a number of recognized states.

You can go to
http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/administration/crime_records/chl/reciprocity.htm
which can help you.
Texas has reciprocity with Louisianna which your map shows to honor only their state license.
Hope this helps,

I was thinking of something similar, only you would also be able to enter the state you reside in. It would give you a list of all the states that can give you non-resident permits, and then list the states that have reciprocity with them, taking into account whether those states recognize non-resident or only resident permits. Or something similar, where you plug in your state, and the state you want to legally carry in. Then it would tell you whether the two states had reciprocity, whether you could get a non-resident permit that would let you carry there, or whether there wasn't a way to do it legally.

The chart looks very professional, by the way.

:D Thank you. You encourage me to try and make it as accurate as possible. But I fear that without Flash programming it could never be as simple as color coding.

Looks good, but there is no distinction between shall issue and may issue.

To be fair, it is a reciprocity chart, not one showing ability to get a permit (shall issue, may issue, no issue, etc)
You could split the "reciprocity states" into "full reciprocity" and "partial reciprocity".
It's a handy quick reference. Sort of a "USA Today" version of packing.org :)
