Please help me!!!
I held one of these at a local gun shop and I can't stop thinking about buying it. I have lots of handguns, and a Remington 870 Wingmaster with a skeet barrel that I've never shot??:o I held one of these at a local shop about a week ago (its still there) and I can't stop thinking about it (I know, I have issues :uhoh:) I'm looking for a home defence shotgun and I know that I can get an 870 Police model for much less that holds more rounds, but I really liked this Super-Shorty. Money is not an issue. I know the Super-Shory is probably not the most practicle weapon, but its really bad-ass.
Should I buy it, or pass up on it and pick up a Police model instead?
Thanks

I agree completely, I've owned several, and intend to always own at least one 870 "HD". However, as you say money isn't an issue,BUY BOTH:D

I've had my eyes on a shorty ever since Tubbs used one on Miami Vice.

I suppose if you were in a Mad Max world with Mad Max weapons, and you were Mad Max, it would be perfect. Would it be fun? Absolutely. But honestly, it's only real application is as backup in close quarters combat. Three shots, (spread of 00 buck notwithstanding, yes it's 27 .30 pellets, but you can only place them in three general locations.) isn't a lot when lead is flying. It's too big to conceal, and when you really think about it, there are a variety of carbine or even semi-auto carbines that are roughly the same size and are much more accurate, and hold a lot more rounds. It's not precise enough to really depend on for controlled fire.

I suppose you could use it to cut down trees. It would make a good under the seat gun in your vehicle.

Also, it's one of those guns whose very appearance screams "Prosecute me for doing the right thing with the wrong weapon".

If the home you plan to defend with it is the size of a phone booth, buy it... otherwise something a bit more practical would be a better choice IMHO. AOWs aren't even that much fun to play with after a shot or three, see if you can find someone who owns one who will let you shoot it and get the bug out of your system before you spend your own money on one.

If you really like it and have to have it, what are you waiting for? My experience with one was not so great. Looked cool, but was less than a joy to shoot.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question. Would a Moss. 590 that came with a pistol grip qualify as AOW and could one modify it to similar configuration as the "shorty"?

No. It has to be made with the PG, and it can never have a full stock put on it. You cannot shorten down a regular SG like that w/o paying the $200 tax. I think the manufactorer pays a $200 tax, while you only pay the $5 tax for transfer.

PG shotguns look cool, but are not cool to shoot.

You could just spend a $100 bucks on an 18 inch barrel for the 870, and use the rest of the money you would have spent on the super-shorty to BA/UU/R.

Or you could also buy the Super-shorty in addition to the short barrel if money is not an issue.

but its really bad-ass

And Bad-ass is NOT what you want, particuarly if you live in a state where SD is frowned upon (I don't know how PA stands on this issue). A sg with wood furniture and the 18 inch barrel is going to look a whole lot less bad-ass than a super shorty. It is a range toy, and little more.

Go shoot your Wingmaster, it needs love and attention. Accept that it's way better for defense than the shorty. Buy a short barrel and shoot the heck out of it.

Go for substance, not flash.....
