Kimber Issues?

Hello everyone! I've been lurking a while and just joined recently. I have a question based on posts I've seen at a number of 1911 sites.

Without turning this thread into a flame war about Kimber, could you fill me in on what's going on with their quality (if anything)? I've purchased a Stainless Pro Carry II that has 200 rnds. through it and another 100 due tomorrow, so I'm still breaking it in. I've had on FTE (limp wristed the shot) and one FTRB when dropping the slide on a new mag. Using Wilson Combat 47D mags.

I really like the pistol -- it shoots to point of aim, it's plenty light, and the fit/finish seem to be great. My first wedding anniversary is coming up soon (16 June) and the wife is entertaining a new full-size Kimber for my present -- but with everything I've read, I'm concerned I'll be getting a lemon!

I was just curious for your thoughts on it -- and, thanks ahead of time for any input!!

Neal

I don't have one myself, but by far the biggest problem reported on the internet boards are the models with an external extractor that is also supposed to double as a loaded chamber indicator. This design has been discontinued.

Thanks TLH; I've been reading that as well. Still, I suppose as with any internet forum, those that have problems tend to make them known while those that don't seem to stay pretty quiet.

I have two, a Desert Warrior and a 9mm Tac Pro II. Neither really needed any sort of break in, and both have run fine with zero stoppages, etc., the whole time I've had them, as far as the guns go. I did run into a bad mag (Colt marked but I'm wondering if it's a Chinese knock off) that just would not feed reliably into the Tac Pro, but good 9mm 1911 mags seem to be a trick to find. The 'Warrior runs fine with CMC mags.
