I was at the range with my Grampa who had aquired his dad's S&W 59 and it ran pretty smooth for a while, but eventually it would be as if the trigger wasnt releasing the hammer... I mean, I would squeeze it all the way back (the trigger) and once it fired after puting alot of tension on it (it surprised me that time :p). It did that about 3 or 4 times totall while firing the 2 or 3 full mags (15 rnd).

but other than that, i had some pretty good groups at 25 yrds and it never jammed.

any ideas on what caused this issue? i usually fixed it by pulling back the slide 1/8 of an inch... wierd?

Sounds like a dirty weapon.

Just a few questions, 1 is this a well used gun? 2 if it is well used has it ever been completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned? It sounds to me like a Pistol that has been field stripped and not completely scrubbed. Perhaps after a good cleaning it will work flawlessly. Careful with disassembly not to let any parts fall out before you see where they belong, I stripped my 5906 and one part got loose before I saw where it came from. It didn't take long to figure it out and get it right. Now it performs flawlessly, not that it didn't before.

I have never had any issues with this 5906, or the 59 I had years ago. They are really awesome IMHO.

With complete disassembly you will also be able to inspect and you may find worn out pieces, another problem with well used weapons. If you find worn pieces you can call Smith & Wesson for replacement parts.

i dont think it's been used much, but it has been sitting still for over 20 years i believe :uhoh:

Complete disassembly sounds like a good idea.

+1 on how awesome they are... me having totally no experience with a 9mm, i got some awesome groups..

gotta get 'er goin good :)

Had a Model 59 years ago, now I have a 5906. I really love the stainless version, It will eat absolutely anything you feed it. Don't rush in taking it apart and reassembly, and by all means use a good quality lube. Enjoy that 59, there aren't many that I have found to compare it to.
