Where's it been for the last couple of days?+1. It appears THR high road is comimg back up as we speak; I see only 2 threads in General Gun Discussions. Hope the archives are not lost. Glad you are back up (I was going into withdraw) and let us know what we can do to help if THR is having troubles.

THANK GOD YOU'RE BACK!
Got wound up on a political rant and the only person to listen was my wife. You KNOW THR has saved my marriage about five times because my wife doesn't have to listen to my soapbox speeches! <big grin>.

You just have to modify the Display Options at the bottom of the main forum area - display more than 2 days worth.

I did read something about a possible denial of service attack, and it appeared that several pro-gun right sites are hosted at the same provider. So either that, or provider issues I would assume.

P.S. I know that there is a level of pride in not asking for donations, but I'd be more than happy to donate a little bit to help secure the server. THR is by far my best source of firearms information. Even if some of you are a little nuts!

Send transaction to derek@zeanah.com. Please make a note that it is for THR maintenance.

11 pages and the first page is just theories of DoS attacks. Cliff notes?

EDIT: oh nevermind looks like it was a DoS attack to help the anti-gun bills get through. AR15 went down too? wow.

After a bumpy or "adventurous" flight, it's not uncommon to see people kiss the ground.

You just have to love those Radical Liberals, they believe in freedom of speech as long as they agree with what you are saying. They claim to be for free speech but will shout down those they disagree with. They will deny this of course and say they have an obligation to stop those who will cause harm to the world as they see it but they are still wrong.

I truly hope they are found and put in jail for their illegal actions.

Lonestar49
May 30, 2007, 01:29 PM
...

You were not along in the sinking feeling the last few days that it was you alone, as that is how I felt as well..

My guess is one of a couple of reasons for the downtime:

Sites offen get "attacked" by bugged-people that use the sites server for their own use in generating traffic of their design needs (not good things) if ya know what I mean. You can tell, sometimes, when it takes some time to get to another page, or post a reply, etc., and things take much longer than usual for any member to use or surf this site.

I know little about such programming or how to fix a sites server to rid it of such a "bug" but, it is not a fast fix, so that may have been the problem.

But, at one of my old sites, where I was Mod for some years, this happened in patterns, thru-out the last 3 yrs, and would re-occur several times within a short period of time until the site Administrator could clear it out, and find the means to block "the individuals" malicious programing, otherwise, defeat it and block it from recurring, until the next NUT put-in a new program, and the site would start to "slow down" until it was very noticable, and the admistrator would close the site down for a day or 3, to fix it, again.

OR:

Being a 3 day Holiday weekend, all the Mods took-off and there was nobody to babysit us kids for those days, so they just closed it down till they all got back, as they didn't want a mob-rule to have taken over during their 3 day quality-off-time.. :D

OR:

None of the above

I agree I'm glad THR is back, but is was a wonderful break over the holiday. I had even more time to reflect on my uncles, cousins, friends and others who have passed. I thought I had read somewhere that THR was planned to be closed over the holiday for that reason. Glad to see everyone back though. Feels like the first day back to school at the end of a long summer.

Remember that scene from the movie "SWAT", with the french guy?

Frenchie : "Zis is easy.... who do ve have to pay?"

Lawyer Woman : "You can't solve this problem by throwing money at it."

"Frenchie : "Zen who do ve have to kill!!!!"

That's how I felt the past couple days. Although, I know who we have to pay... Derek, and rightfully so. I prefer sending checks via snail mail, so it might be a couple days.

:uhoh:I would like to share the worst weekend I have experienced in quite some time. It all started when I left to meet some family at the beach a couple hours away to stay for a weekend of fun in the sun. On the way down I stopped by Big Blue Box store and bought a laptop that I have had my eye on for some time, and a wireless broadband card, I could hardly contain my joy when I arrived, unwrapped my new toy, and while waiting for everyone else to arrive fired it up. You can guess what the first website I went to was, and my frustration as I tried to get my brand new computer and modem to access the internet (didn't think to try the rest of the internet for about an hour:o). I kept trying it on and off all weekend, and as others have said I had no place to safely contain my political rants. It thunderstormed for most of the weekend, and as I was forced to sit inside looking at the black raincloud over the beach all I could think of was how much I missed THR, that soon escalated to bar hopping down the strip, needless to say most of the population of Ocean City now knows how I really feel.

$20 is a small price to pay Dereck for my own, my familys and all those in earshot's sanity and sobriety, my contribution is on the way, I truly appreciate all that the mods do to give us this great site

and I truly appolagise to the poor folks at a certain go-kart track, I had no idea how much a night of alcohol induced political rants can impair ones karting ability, no need to say the name, you know who you are
