Old model, stainless, 7.5" barrel. Factory stag grips. No box/papers. Looks like 98%+. Used, carbon build-up, but only the faintest cylinder ring. Any idea what this would be worth?
Thanks.

What caliber?
Factory stags sound quite tasty, but the market is usually slimmer for the long tubes.
You might check over on www.rugerforum.com - more Ruger collectors there than anywhere. I would guess it won't be extreme though, $500ish maybe unless those grips are more special than I suspect.

Hmmm. Yeah, dunno value...I've actually not heard of any *recent* factory stags. Are they swapped from an Old Model of some sort, 1960s production?

I usually check *approximate* values via gunbroker, gunsamerica or auctionarms. The longer bbl. models don't hold quite the value as the shorter ones (more of a market for CAS shooters, I guess). As far as I can figure, value is running between $325 to $400 for the stainless. If you can pick it up cheaper, great! Good thing about the longer tube is you can have it cut & crowned at whatever length you REALLY want in that gun. I have a .44 stainless I'm thinking about cutting down to 5" and reverse crowning, but it is so accurate like it is, I hate to think I might end up screwing it up by doing so. The 7.5" bbl. really is an accurate weapon. I can hit a pie plate at 75 yds all day long with mine.

If a gun shoots well with a long barrel, doing a pro-grade chop is the mod LEAST likely to harm accuracy, as compared to a barrel swap.
5" is a really slick length for an SA. Re-do the front sight via one of these:

Hog out the rear channel to match and hell yeah, good gun :).
