The faces of THR

So, after looking at some of the pics from the THR gathering, it got me sort of curious as to what the rest of us look like. Call me silly, but I have seen some of these names on here for over a year now, and it would be nice to put a face to some of the names. In that spirit, here is a pic of me after a pheasant hunt a year ago. I am the enormous man on the right, the guy on the left is my roommate and the kid in the middle is my buddy's step-son (who, thanks to my buddy, has become quite a good hunter and bagged his first antelope, elk, and deer this past year). Lets see some of those fearsome mugs! By the way, I look pretty much the same, except I abandoned the beard and stuck to my normal goatee. The beard was something of a mistake....

Actually a Houstonian...just finished up my hitch at UT and moved home. Austin was a nice change for a while.

Here I am with my bodyguards (they don't think I need guns, I have them...) Pippin is a daughter of one of the most famous Irish terriers ever, Ch. me with No4 enfield, which fell pray to my "inordinate amount of handload development and it still shoots lousy, it's sell/trade fodder" rule.

the mediocre accuracy, combined with the expense, time etc to get the gun set up "right" according to my needs/wants (replace the two position rear sight with a Micrometer type, replace original long length [had "L" mark at toe] butt stock with standard length unit, then strip/clean and re-oil the stock) just didn't seem a worthwhile project

For me, it's already been a very thought-provoking experience to see who's on the road. We seem a totally interesting bunch with a great diversity of age, ethnicities, body types and I suspect equally diverse backgrounds, philosophies, professions, etc.

Yet here we are together on this cyber-road, sharing a strong interest in, appreciation of, and respect for guns.

So far, I recognize the user names of a relatively small percentage (maybe 20%) of those posting images (because I've been in threads with them in the past), and look forward to seeing images of more of those that I do know.

But it's interesting that seeing a person in here for the first time makes me instantly feel like, "Wow, I'd like to know more about this person. Let me check their other posts to learn more about who they are, what they think, what they shoot (both guns and targets)."

And I suspect, for some reason, that by us seeing each other as people could - just could - increase our level of mutual respect when we're hanging out in other threads, especially some of those that are say ...
... <ahem> a bit politically and/or philosophically <ahem> shRILL. <ahem> :D

This picture was taken on April 30, 2007. I flew my final mission as a C-130 loadmaster in the morning and retired that afternoon. The T-shirt I'm holding was worn that morning in honor of those who never came home. I got it at the JPAC ops office at U-Tapao, Thailand while on a repat mission to Viet Nam to bring home some remains. You can't tell, but it's all wet, the result of getting my traditional fini flight hosing down!

I cannot remember if this one was taken last year or the year before. It is me and the wife. It was the first, and last time, to date, that she ever went shooting. As you can see, my wife has extremely little to absolutely no facial hair, maybe that explains why she is not into shooting. As for me, the beard is gone, but not the stache.
