Picked up a Winchester m1917 (enfield) and am interested in restoring it. The metal is intact but rearsenaled and the wood has been sportered. Checked the sn (66xx) which shows it to be first months production. Has a star in circle mark on left side for lack of interchangability with later production. Have been told first month Wins are either rare or junk, anyone have any idea on value? Thanks.

It will take a lot of work to find a Winchester M1917 and handguards. I assume the barrel band and upper band are gone. You will probably put more money into restoring the rifle than what you would get out of it.
Winchester is a recognizable brand name, but I have not seen the same interest in P17's as I have seen for Garands and M1 Carbines. Could be wrong.
Too bad your rifle was altered.
