I am looking to buy my first revolver. I like the Ruger Vaquero and was thinking of buying it in 45 colt. Then I came across Uberti and I like the looks of them but never heard of them. Can anyone give up any info about them. Are they good guns, accurate and reliable? This will be used at the range mostly. Are there any other western style gun makers I should look at?

Thanks

This is second hand info so keep it in mind .

I have talked to several who have been very satisfied with their Uberti guns and the general feeling I get is that they are a reliable and well built firearm.

Now from a pure reliable and well built standpoint I think most will tell you that Ruger is probably at the top of the chart for single action wheel guns of the style your looking at.

There is likely others as well, but I would handle a Taurus if I were you before making a final decision - the ones I have looked over seem to be made very well .

Now you will hear from some cowboy action shooters with more expertese than I can bring to the table on this one.

Uberti is a sub of Beretta and imports all kinds of cowboy guns. You can check their site out. Well made, reliable and reasonable. So is Ruger which is the mainstay of cowboy action shooting.

The bests advice as always is to try to check them out and handle them before buying.

Don't know anything about Taurus. Beretta also makes the stampede SAA.

You might go over to www.sassnet.com for more

From my understanding, the Ubertis are copies of originals in every regard. Therefore, they lack the transfer bar and should not be carried in a holster over a loaded chamber from what I've heard. I have handled one or two at a gunshop, nothing more, but this safety issue is something to consider when purchasing is all.

I've not handled one either, but Shooting Times did a nice spread on SAAs in the January issue that included great photos and info on the Uberti 1873 Cattleman. From what I could see, it looks like a very nice revolver. Cowboy shooters I know consider them a viable alternative to the Vaquero.
