Well, I've lurked here for a while and I've thoroughly enjoyed the opinions expressed here. One that I've never shared however, was the high opinion of the 1911. Don't flame me yet!!! I've just never been a fan of them because I don't care much for full size guns, and they've always seemed to be "fixer-uppers". I mean it sounded like you had to drop a bunch of cash to get them to be what you want them to be. but today I was on my way home across country from Wisconsin (I was delivering a motorcycle I had sold on eBay, because I'm that good of a guy). When I got back into my own beloved state of Nebraska, I stopped at a store in Lincoln to look around, since my local stores don't have very big selections. while browsing the handguns, I saw a sub-compact 1911 P-10 .45 by Para Ordnance that caught my eye. I had a sales guy help me and I just fell in love with it for some reason. I ended up leaving with it and I have to say, I'm very anxious to shoot it. It has the caliber I want, the capacity I want and the size I want. I have no idea if I got a good deal or not ($600 used but LNIB), but that doesn't seem to matter for some reason. I hope it turns out to be what everyone is raving about and that it isn't a let-down, I honestly don't see how it could be. A small pistol that makes a BIG boom??? That can't be a let-down, can it? I'll post a follow up after I take it out to shoot, and I'll see if I can get some pics if anyone's interested.

So I took it to the range today. Actually out to a prairie dog town where I like to mess around at. I did a comparison test by first firing my trusty old Taurus PT-111 then firing the Para Ordnance. The Taurus performed like it always does and was as accurate as I can expect it to be. Then I fired the Para. Mind you this was my first time with a .45 so I was not sure what to expect. I pulled the trigger the first time and I felt something... Nirvana. I believe I just found my new favorite handgun.
Thanks for all the 1911 info on this board, it definitely is the reason my interest was piqued enough to purchase one.

Sounds like you found your gun. I'm sorta shopping for a 1991 style myself, and completely overlooked the para. I'll have to check them out too!

Nothing like buying a gun and finding out you did good! :D Those P10's are nice. The girth of the grip really helps to tame the recoil & makes them fun to shoot. Congrats ;)

Speaking of recoil... I was expecting a LOT of it, but actually got very little. Definitely an impressive piece!

Good choice digex, I own 4 para-ordnances, (all 45s) as well as a colt 1911, a sig P220 and a full size glock in the 45 caliber. But I carry my paras with me all the time. Relable accurate pistols. The only problem I've ever had was with my ParaCarry C6-45, and a change of ammo to corbons took care of that. Enjoy!!
