Didn't think I'd have much use for the 17 HMR. Seems kind of expensive for a tiny rimfire. Figured I just stick with 22LR. But then I saw one of these http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=663&return=Y at the gunshow last month. Can't say why, but it was calling to me. I didn't have the dough for it, and the seller wasn't interested in what I'd brought to trade ( ultimately a good thing, but that's another story ). So it didn't come home with me. But I keep thinking about it. So I was wondering who out there might have one, and what's your opinion?

Thanks,
Tuckerdog1

I too have noticed this offering from Ruger. Was just talking to a gun firned of mine the other day about it. It appears that I will be needing to start my Ruger camp (17 Single Six/22 Single Six/357 Vaquero) before too long. Of course, this will only come after the S&W camp has filled up a bit more, and I have a couple of more rifles in the locker...hehe.

I don't trust bottleneck cartridges in revolvers... I remember the .22 Jet. :uhoh:

The .17HMR is amazing at 100 yards from a rifle. Amazing.

But unless I had a .17HMR rifle for varmints on a farm or something, and I wanted a companion gun to carry with me in the same caliber, I'd stick with a the regular .22 version.

At any range that can be sanely shot with a pistol, the .22 WMR has more punch, and .22LR is an order of magnitude cheaper. For .17HMR prices, you could shoot a centerfire handgun round.

I want one to simply round out my Single-Six stable but I want one with dual cylinders 17HMR/M2 and they only offer that in the Hunter version that I don't like. I may have to pick one up anyway as with my luck they'll discontinue it and I'll have to pay scalper prices like with my .32Mag version.

I've got one in the blued 6 1/2 inch barreled version. I've had it for some time and have found it to be VERY accurate. Never had any problems with it. The only problem is the cost of the ammo...

Just my opinion, but a 17 HMR or 22 Mag out of a short barrel does not make much sense to me...Stick with the 22LR.
