I just read that the Ruger Old Army uses the same grip frame as the Ruger Blackhawk. Is that true? Does that mean it can use the same aftermarket grips?

I had read the same thing, so I tried it. I took a set of faux mother of pearl grips off my old model Blackhawk and put them on my stainless Old Army. Fits like they were made for it. I can't say "all" or "every", but this set worked for me.

The ROA can also use grips that fit the original Vaquero. Not sure about the New Vaquero.

If your looking for Ruger grips, check out www.lettgrips.com. They make the grips for the Ruger Factory, but they offer a lot more variety than the Ruger catalog.

Mike101 - Lett grips did indeed make the factory OEM grips for Ruger. However, they have gone out of business and the web site, although accessible, is not supported any more.

Here's the skinny on ROA and Blackhawk grip frames as they relate to fitting grips: they are completely interchangeable. ROA grips will fit on either an Old Model or New Model Blackhawk and vice versa.

However, the frames themselves are not interchangeable. The NM Blackhawk uses a different trigger and trigger spring than the OM Blackhawk and ROA, and the grip frame is different to support that new design. An OM Blackhawk and ROA use the same trigger spring mechanism and thus the grip frames will interchange between them.

I tried to go on the lett grips site, I guess they are out of business... I saw Rugers new catalog, and I also the the 50th anniversary super blackhawk with black rubber checkered grips, I want to put that on my ROA- where can I buy one of those? Do I have to call ruger and tell them I have an anniversary blackhawk to get them to send me one? I need one badly.

Call Ruger at 888-220-1173, tell them you want to buy a set to put on your ROA and see what they'll do for you.

I have Pachmayr grips for a Blackhawk on on my Old Army. Fits my hand far better than the narrow original grips,

Guys, I wanted to put the black rubber 50th anniversary new model blackhawk grips, I think it should fit, given the previous replies about what is interchangeable and what isn't, right? And ruger is the best place to go for these grips, I take it?

Guys, I just got the 50th anniversary black rubber grips for the Black Hawk, and the grips don't fit my ROA!! I thought they were supposed to fit, it was too small, the holes didn't line up at all, I'm stumped, I thought they were interchangeable... What happened, any ideas??:what:

That doesn't make sense. Where did you get the grips from?

Is there another model in Rugers line that has the BLACK Checkered rubber grips that will fit the ROA??

I don't know about another model with those grips. I got my information from the www.rugerforum.com revolvers forum. I'd suggest you call Ruger customer service and ask them for some help, or go over to the forum itself and see what they have to say. The forum is also a good place to get rid of those grips that don't fit.

"I feel a set of hogues in my future....."

Hogue makes gorgeous SA grips. So does Eagle. How about some nice Eagle Buffalo Horn Gunfighter Grips? They're black, and a hell of a lot classier looking than black rubber. They also do Ebony, as does Hogue. There is also Black Micarta from Hogue.

PS- Buffalo Horn is tough as nails, too.
