Dad told me Saturday that he does not intend on shooting anymore. Wants to give me his firearms. He lives in one state and I in another. Can he just give them to me without a FFL transfer?
TIA
Blessings to all,

A pity he didn't give them to you before you moved away from home, isn't it? Then this question wouldn't come up.

For rifles and shotguns I'd say yes.

I know that a person can buy rifles and shotguns outside of one's home state as long as one can legally own them in one's home state.

I would guess yes regarding the handguns because they are not being sold. Maybe they could be considered loaned.

I think he can if he physically drives them to you, but to ship them they have to go FFL. However, ask your FFL, around here, if you're inheriting firearms (not buying), a bunch of them will do it for about $5.

I can go visit and pick them up or he can drive them down when he visits me.... I've been out of the house for some time now. He is 72 and I am 50. both of us retired Army. He just doesn't shoot any more and I still do. I just shot a 3 gun match here. That was tough on an old guy. Imagine ME rolling around on the ground trying to shoot under a 4 inch barrier at bowling pins!

If one of you is unfortunate enough to be in Kalifornia, you need to go through an FFL. What other states do is probably somehting you could find on the Secretary of State or Attorney General's website for that state.

Realistically, unless the state you live in is a Police State like Kalifornia has become, who's to know? If it were me I would just go get them.
