This past winter, a number of officers from the Airport Police and local PD helped us round up a German Shepherd who had escaped at the airport. A lot of other departments would have simply shot the animal as a threat, but these guys went the extra mile to rescue her. And it was NOT easy. It took almost twelve hours, from six PM to six AM, in the cold and snow.

if local LE shot every animal that posed a threat there'd be hundreds if not thousands of such shootings in this state every year.
between the moose, bears, dogs, cats, porcupines, beavers, eagles, and mosquitos....
