standard stock or pistolgrip stock

I have a benneli semi auto with a straight standard stock,I'v shot it many time's.
The recoil seem's to push back a little it's not to bad at all, I can rapid fire it pretty easy.
Then trying to go tacticool I orderd a speedfeed pistol grip stock,it looked real cool on my benneli,I couldn't wait to try it at the shooting range.
when I first shot the benneli I was surprised:what: of the felt recoil, the barrel jumped up and the recoil hit my shoulder hard and my hand holding the pistol grip hurt a little.hmmm maybe i did somthing wrong:confused: let me try it again POW the second time was the same i could't belive it!!.after a couple of rapid shot's i started to feel sore.so i pulled out my winchester 1912 with a standerd wood stock, and the recoil was soft next to the pistol grip stock.
so I guess i'll put back that standard stock back on my benneli.
I'd rather have a gun i can handle then a gun that look's cool but have a hard time shooting.:D
Any body notice the same thing about the pistol grips on shotguns??
maybe straight stock's are better than pistol grip stock's??.
What's you'r two cent's

I've got a Mossy 590 and put a pistol grip on it. After 5 shots of buckshot and slugs I was ready for the buttstock again.
Now I have an ATI pistol grip buttstock and I love it. The gun is much more practical, easy to shoot, and easy to handle. The pistol grip looks good, but go with the best of both worlds and get the pistol grip buttstock.
On a sidenote, it seems like the recoil is less now, and my accuracy is better.

I'm finding more and more that I'd rather have a traditional stock on my shotgun. But, my only experience with a pistol-grip stock was a Knoxx SpecOps, so I can't really comment on the recoil issues.

This thread should be "Sticky'd" for the next round of THR's interested in swapping out their perfectly good stocks for pistolgrip only configuration.

Your Mileage Will Vary....
That being said, I have tried the full stock with pistol grip, pistol grip only, and standard stock (no pistol grip). The standard stock works for me best. The full w/pistol grip was fair-to-middlin', the PGO was less than useless for me.
Ask me about my PGO adventures, and how I got to be known as "Rocky Raccoon" for a coupla weeks. That was about 10 years ago, and when I think of it, my face STILL hurts.

I own 13 shotguns, but only my Benelli M1S90 has the factory pistol grip stock. For its intended purpose I prefer it. I don’t find it at all uncomfortable and I think it aids in felt recoil.
One thing I know it does help in is one handed manipulation of the gun, same reason Benelli is putting them on their Turkey guns. I can tuck the buttstock under my arm while gripping the pistol grip and easily open doors etc.

...I'm a standard stock guy, although a borrowed 1100 Tactical with Speedfeed fixed PG shot really nice this past weekend.
I almost gave up shooting shotties a while back. I was more a recreational shooter that got into Practical Shooting. I have short arms. Couldn't really reach the forend for rapid shooting and rapid reloads were a real chore. I discovered the 12" LoP stock by Hogue for what was then my one-and-only Mossberg. Now I have a safe full of Mossbergs (with stocks that fit me) and I picked up a Nova Tactical Pump also. While the LoP on the Nova is longer, the forend overlaps and the ergonomics work.
I ran an ATI Telestock for a while...worked fine, but decided I really liked the Hogue 12" better, and the overall ergonomics were better (safety disengagement, action release lever, etc.).
Similarly with the Knoxx CopStock...yeah, it was cool that it was an over-folder, and it did reduce some recoil, but it messed up my feel big time...my whole timing with the gun was thrown off.
Different strokes for different folks...I know several very capable shooters running fixed full-lengh PG stocks that do quite well.
It isn't about tacticool or tradition, it's about what fits YOU!!

Allows one to learn gun fit, and correct basic fundamentals therefore getting a solid foundation of shotgunning instilled.
