Well, here's the latest Demorat candidate for you all to read about. I guess as far as Demorats go, he's the most pro-gun. Anyone in VT know about him?

As far as I know, I believe he is for renewing the AWB.

On Meet the Press (June 22nd) Howard Dean was interviewed for whole program. I get the impression his is no friend of RKBA based on his statements on that program.

I also get the impression that he is probably not very familiar with the Constitution of the USA and the Bill Of Rights.

His comments were some thing like this.

He was Governon of Vermont, which is mostly a rural state with many hunters. He said Vermont had no gun control laws, which is not quite correct. They have a few.

He gave the impression that gun control should be a state perogative. Vermont has no laws (he says), but it is okay if New York, New Jersey and California have all the gun control laws they want, if they want to get the (direct quote); "the machine guns and handguns off the street".

After listening to Dr. Dean for almost an hour, he seems like a well meaning nice guy who is also over his head, too far to the left politically for most of America, and a borderline idiot.

He's a sniveling idiot is what he is. I saw him on Meet the Press and a sorrier performance I can't remeber by an elected official.

From what I've been reading about him, his gun control views are the least of our worries. I'm more worried about his social programs turning the US into a Calif style fiscal black hole.

Quote:

"I believe we should keep and enforce the federal gun laws we have - including the assault weapons ban and the Brady Bill - and close the gun show loophole using Insta-check and then let the states decide for themselves what, if any, additional gun control laws they want. Just as we resist attempts by President Bush to dictate to the states how we run our school systems and what kind of welfare programs to have, we need to resist attempts to tell states how to deal with guns beyond existing federal law."

Little Howie needs to check with Shillary Snopes Clinton, whose seat he's just keeping warm.

According to a story on TV news, the NRA supports him . . . which makes no sense, based on what's been posted already.

Fuuny, Deans position, other Dems, MANY Republicans and our president "In favor of renewing the AWB" Bush don't make me feel too good about the future.

"I believe we should keep and enforce the federal gun laws we have - including the assault weapons ban and the Brady Bill - and close the gun show loophole using Insta-check and then let the states decide for themselves what, if any, additional gun control laws they want. "

So how is this different from President Bush's stated positions on gun issues?

http://www.issues2000.org/Gun_Control.htm

"Law-abiding citizens ought to be allowed to protect their families. We ought to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them. That’s why I’m for instant background checks at gun shows."

“I make my positions on what I think is right. I’ll make the decisions as to what goes on in the White House,“ he said. Repeating an accusation he has made before, Bush said: ”I’ve never been a member of the NRA. Gore has been, if I’m not mistaken.“

Where They Agree: Regarding guns, Texas Gov. George W. Bush and Vice President Al Gore would, if elected president:
Support the current ban on assault weapons.
Prohibit juveniles from possessing assault weapons.
Ban imports of high-capacity ammunition clips.
Raise the minimum age for possessing a handgun from 18 to 21.
Require that trigger locks be sold with handguns.

I'll agree that I don't see too much about Dean that is pro-gun; but what I really don't see is any difference between his stated policies and those stated by the Bush Administration (a matter I intend to address in the recent request for a donation from the RNC that I received).

Ban imports of high-capacity ammunition clips

This ban wouldn't bother me at all, but the current ban on normal and high capacity MAGAZINES really pisses me off. ;)
