Ithaca 37 stock dimensions

What is the difference between a 12 Ga stock and a 16 Ga stock for an Ithaca 37? Where are the exact differences? I need to know if it is circumference, length, height, etc and what the differences in measurements are. Thanks for any assistance.

It's only the height of the stock where it attaches to the receiver. It's around 1/8" shorter than a 12ga stock (IIRC, since I don't have a 16ga stock around here to measure). A 12ga stock is 1.240/1.250". The width is exactly the same on each of the three different gauges of M37s.

This is the only pic I could find of dimensions. Which dimension will differ between the 12 and 16's?

**As far as I know**, all of the M37 stocks within a given period of time (Ithaca did change various dimensions over the years) will all have the same drop, LOP, profile etc. The only difference is in the height of the stock where it butts up to the receiver.

So then- "THEORETICALLY"- I could bolt up a 12 ga stock to a 16 ga receiver and shave off the proud wood and be good to go? The reason I ask is I am looking for a 16 ga beater to restock and refinish. It seems aftermarket places only sell 12 ga or 20 ga sized stocks- the 16 is nowhere to be found. Or do you know who might sell a synthetic stock for a 37 in 16 ga size?

Well, you might have to do a little re-inletting in the area where the trigger housing protrudes out the back of the receiver. Just guessing though.

Maybe you should talk to Les at www.diamondgunsmithing.com and get his take on this project. He was the head gunsmith at the Ithaca factory back in the 60's/70's , and he knows his Ithaca's.
