Tell me what's so hot about 12 gauge 3" magnums?

Well, my Winchester Defender has a 3" chamber, though I've never tried them as of yet. But now I've got that itch to try them and see what I'm missing. I'm wondering what the folks who shoot 3" magnums find as the advantage. What are we talking here concerning buckshot? What are we talking here concerning slugs? What are we talking here concerning heavier birdshot, like #2? Your thoughts?

What are we talking here concerning buckshot?
Recoil.
What are we talking here concerning slugs?
I said RECOIL.
What are we talking here concerning heavier birdshot, like #2?
RECOIL!!!
Your thoughts?
Unless you're a masochist or have some really tricky targets, stick to 2¾"...

The difference? About 1/4". JK. The 3" and 3 1/2" are supposed to be good for large waterfowl (geese).

I can shoot 2 3/4 at upland game & clays all day but 3" turkey loads make me flinch! May be real good for geese but I'm sure glad you don't need 'em for dove!

The magnums are for moving larger quantities of shot, the More Is Better Principle at work. When one needs large shot, the bigger shell keeps the pellet count up for a better and denser pattern.

Buck and slugs from the 2 3/4" shell do the job.
Except for waterfowl and turkey, there's not much need for the magnums.

AND, they're not for rookies. Shooting these off without good form is traumatic.

Main advantage is when steel shot is required.

Shooting 3" shells is FUN !

There, I said it.

They are "instant form and posture correctors"
