IIRC, I read that the NRA offers free gun insurance if your an NRA member.
That might be completely untrue, but I read about it years ago, so please correct me.
If the NRA doesn't have gun insurance, does anyone offer it?

You get $1,000 of coverage with your NRA membership. You can buy additional coverage. I think the current rate is $1.66 per $100 of coverage.

Youch, too expensive for me...
I figure the odds of needing it to be less than 1%, I'll self insure at a 2 to 1 cost ratio.

I pay pennies per month (well, it's a couple bucks) extra on home insurance for a $100k deductible through Geico for gun insurance.

$100k deductible
No wonder the policy is so cheap!;)

Good question. I have State Farm for my home owners, and they have recently reduced the cap on firearms coverage within their 'standard' policy from $10,000 to $5,000. I was told that I would need a separate policy to cover more than that amount.
I won't divulge how much I calculated the replacement value of all of my guns, scopes, holsters, etc. to be, but -- if I took out their separate firearms policy it would take less than ten years for the amount they wanted to charge (annually) to equal the value of my collection... so I'm "self insured" at this point. State Farm has been good to me otherwise, but in this case they suck.
