Alright...Here is the deal. I flew back home to Boston and spent the weekend with my family. While there I came across 8 boxes/400 rnds of unused 9MM ammo. Problem? I dont have a 9MM....I have all .40SW. I am using this as an excuse to go and buy a 9MM...:D

I just bought a CZ40 so I would like to keep the price down. I am not looking for a kimber, glock, or anything that would run me over $500....I want $300-$400 MAX range.

I almost bought a S&W Sigma in the 40, but then I bought the glock...i might buy one in the 9MM. I was also thinking of maybe a 24/7 from taurus......

thoughts?
Joe

The taurus sounds like a good bet. Maybe even check out the PT111. Unfortunately i'm not sure as to whether or not the particular model of CZ you have can have a barrel that converts to 9 (Though since its somewhat rare, i sort of doubt it), but its worth looking into.

Good, the CZ-40 will never be a 9mm.:) But, you could go look for a used CZ75, and increase your affection for CZs! That's around $350 most where I have looked.
Other than that, the Star Model BM used to go for $150, when they were around, good luck now...:mad:

If you simply want a reliable but not necessarily a pretty 9mm look into a Star Firestar (7 rd compact) or Star M30 Starfire (15 round). Both totally reliable, the 7 rd is compact, the 15 rd about lime a 1911,combat accurate, probably last 150K rds or more. Too bad Star is no longer in business. They just weren't pretty.

I'd suggest trying to find a Taurus PT-92, should come in a bit under $400. The 24/7 is pretty nice if you want a plastic gun. CZ75B is great but used is the only way it'll come in under $400 now as word has got out about how good they really are (same as with Springfield XD).

IMHO any of the above are way better than the Sigma. I've seen the new S&W M&P 9mm for about $400 and they got a special going on where you get two free mags from S&W if you buy soon which makes a pretty good deal overall.

Brand new CZ75B is $405 at Bud's. Plus shipping and transfer. Not bad for a gun that will last a lifetime or three.

Some good suggestions in this thread. For an inexpensive 9mm that is rock solid check out the CZ75 as has already been suggested.

...just got his Steyr M9A1 after shooting my S9 a few weeks back for the first time. We went to the range today - he's in love. The Steyrs are little known but adored by owners.

That said, maybe branch out a bit. A Kel-Tec Sub2000 9mm carbine is a great little gun, runs about $300-$325. Nice to have a long gun that fits into a pizza box (they fold in half, in case you don't know). I love mine. :D

Another one chiming in for the Ruger P89, can be picked up used for anywhere from $250-350, depending on where you are. I got mine NIB for $369.

Thanks for the info guys...I really like the two tone Ruger P89 and or the 95. Can anyone tell me the primary difference between the two?

I am liking the Bersa and the Rugers for the price. I am going to stop by my local shop and see what they have in the used stuff as well as new.

My Ruger P95 has been superb.

It is a bit smaller than the P89, has a more ergonomic grip, and has a polymer frame, whereas the P89 has an alloy frame.

New, I would consider a Ruger P-95. Great gun for self defense or home protection.

Used, Many more options. S&W 3rd gen Police trade in pistols come to mind as being great guns for the money. I got a 6906 for less than $250.

The P89 is metal, the P95 is plastic. The P89 is basically a refinement of Ruger's first centerfire autoloading pistol, the P85. Suggest you check specs at Ruger's website -- they're both still in production.

Nothing wrong with the S&W Sigma. A lot of people can't get used to the trigger pull on it though. Mine got a lot better after a couple of hundred rounds through it. Either that or I just got used to it. Now after 1200 rounds it seems very normal to me. I really do not notice it anymore. Other than the trigger pull it is top notch, very reliable and easy to clean.

AIM has Sig P225's (German PD P6 trade ins) for under $400 and you can't beat a Sig. Single stack 9mm.

Otherwise, how about a Springfield XD9 for around $349?

They allow bullets in Boston? I thought you needed to apply to the city council with a petetion written in blood just to handle bullets. :neener:

I just got a 24/7 and think it could be the best deal going.

True, and more than once I might add.

"I need some assistance in getting a 9mm Steve" - Someone I know, male, female, young or old...

<Arrive at Gun Getting Place>

"Hey, lemme see that BHP please" - me

<Hands to person>

"He/she will take it and a case of ammunition, and some spare mags...holster..."
- I inform Clerk

"Pay the man" - I suggest to person I was asked to assist.

"Did I just buy a BHP? " - they ask

"Yep, now you need to buy lunch/ diner, spending other folks money getting guns makes me hungry" - me

I hear your CZ40 calling for a roommate. The proper matchup would be a CZ75B, most likely in the black polycoat. Keep it in the family. If you like the .40 S&W, you will LOVE the 9m/m. You might Czech out the www.CZForum.com classified listings, sometimes a very tasty item is listed, like the .22lr Kadet adapter unit (fits on the CZ75/85/75B and .22 is dirt cheap).

My vote goes to an FNP9 or 9-M, depending on use. Dead reliable, built like a tank. Comes with 3 mags, should be around $400

Summitgunbroker.com Mark has some great prices on a lot of good guns. His new Glocks run around $450 depending on options and you can get some like new police trade-ins for a song. I bought a Glock 32 in 357 Sig with 3 mags and night sights for $420. It was an unissued police trade in. Great guy to do business with. I have been thinking of getting a G19 in 9mm in addition to my 23 and 32. Love my glocks. He has some real good deals on some of the older models right now along with great deals on other makes like the Sigma and the M&P.

Go with the Stoeger Cougar. It is cheap, reliable, good looking, very accurate and it fieldstrips really easy making cleaning a breeze.

S&W M&P is hard to beat. My dealer tends to be a bit on the high side of local prices but even they sell the M&Ps for under $500. Aftermarket support is good and growing - gotta have a holster for it, right?

Depending on what you plan on using the 9mmNATO pistol for(CCW, target, duty, etc) here are some good ideas;
SIGarms DAK model P-226R, P-239 DAK model, S&W/M&P 9mmNATO compact, HK P-2000 LEM model(full size or compact).

Any of these pistols would be a smart buy. ;)

For protection or duty ammo use; 124gr +P bonded JHP from Speer-Gold Dot or Remington Golden Saber or if you can find it; Ranger SXT 127gr 9mm +p+ JHP rounds from Winchester. These loads are in use by many sworn LEOs(law enforcement).

USED GUN! Check your local dealers for police trade-ins. Alot of agencies have jumped from the 9mm to .40 and I see many of them showing up locally. Most seem to be S&W 59 3rd generation guns with a few Beretta 92's in the mix, but these will fit your bill nicely! You'll be hard pressed to find a used cheap Glock and most Sigs are traded into the fatory and then reconditioned. New, you've had plenty of suggestions but the Taurus pistols and the Stoeger Cougar seem to be the most bang for the buck. Have Fun!

The Ruger P89 is solid and damn near indestructable. A bit large, it might be awkward if you have smallish hands. The trigger pull is also rather long but the whole mechanism smooths out nicely with use. Not especially sexy, but an excellent value NIB for around $350. They're fairly common so I suspect it wouldn't be too hard to find a good deal on a used one.

Plenty of good recommendations here, and there are alot of solid 9mm out there. Probably been said enough already, but right now I think the deal on the M&P pistols is just hard to beat. In fact I might be going to buy one today after work haha. Local shop has em for $399 in store (no transfer fee), and you can get 2 extra free mags (4 total) as well as a free range bag from S&W. Pretty solid deal there for a good new 9mm. Something to consider.

There is a CZ75B in the CZForum Classifieds that nobody has latched onto, and the seller is asking $375, he pays the shipping to your FFL, and whas 2/15 round mags and 2/10 round mags. Sounds like a nice starter setup for somebody.

+1 on the P89. I bought one for $300. It's eaten the best and worst ammunition with only one problem using 20 year old reloads. I have fun shooting it and I would trust my life with it.

Well i bought a gun. I have been fascinated by the sigma S&W and dont know why. i got one for $279, and got the 2 extra Mag deal. the trigger pull is not an issue, and honestly I really like the trigger pull on it. I have gone to the range a few times with it and have put about 1000 rounds through it with no major issues. In the first 200 rounds or so it didnt like FMJ Hollow Points, but now it takes everything from Winchester range ammo, to hollow Points, to whatever I have in the bag. This gun goes well with my Baby eagle, CZ40, and 38 special.

Thanks for the input everyone....I think the next gun will be a 45, or maybe a 642...dont know yet.

Joe
