Got back last Thursday from my trip ..... squeezed in all but 4,000 miles in just over 8 days.! Here's an approx map of my route .....

Outa interest .... how near did i get to some of you folk?? I made a few visits .. nowhere near what i would have liked ...... but felt i could have seen quite a few more without too much diversion.... if time had allowed.

Whole deal was based on an ''excuse'' to go visit Dallas for a gun show!! :D

It appears as though you came within a few blocks from me! I see you didn't stay long in Kansas though!

You were pretty close to me if you were in Indiana on Sunday, June 15. BTW, were you trying to avoid OK and if so, what do you know that we don't? :D

You came pretty close to me here in central Indiana, but you didn't have a stop over.

Looks like you may have been in the Chambersburg/Shippensburg area of Pennsylvania, which is about 75 to 100 miles from me.

You were within 26 miles of my farm in Missouri.

I'm guessing that you may have passed within a few hundred yards of me - I live within a few blocks of both I-64 and I-44 in St. Louis...

Shoulda gone to that full auto shoot in Oklahoma...

Hey Spackler, where are you?

I grew up in Marysville, across the river from Harrisburg.

Well, you came within a few miles of the house, and I probably drove right past you as you were heading to the gun show.

Sorry about cutting you off, but those out of state plates are like a red flag in front of a bull.

If you repeat the trip and find yourself in Garden City KS again, I usually have cold beer and the shooting range is always open!

Oh my! Great responses .. thx guys. Funny .... several have mentioned about OK :) ... in fact I had planned one stop to visit there but ..... couldn't get hold of the people in time before leaving, and if truth known ... time was just not elastic enough.

Standing Wolf ........ I guess you are up Springs or even Denver region maybe - my stop over was with a buddy in Pueblo.

Sisco .... well .... Moday 16 had to be a long day's drive and so crosses KS with only gas stops ..... to make it in time for a stop over with a buddy in SW MO. Travelled mostly on R50 and R160.

4v50 Gary - Sunday 15, was in fact headin up to NM and then CO .... came thru IN in afternoon of Tuesday 17.

Flashpoint - the ''big dot'' was actually Heth .... stayed at a Super 8 ... guess we were not too far outa Forest City. Don't anyone stay at that motel ... room stank of cat pee!

Sylvilagus Aquaticus - I expect I might have seen a few THR guys . if I'd known what to look for ...... was busy yeah ... trying hard not to overspend!! Always difficult.:p

Mike Irwin - the map ain't over accurate Mike ..... the home area is actually West of Chambersburg ..... in Bedford County - not sure if you are to East or West of me.

waynzwld - hmmm ... wonder which part of MO ....... stayed near lamar in SW and then headed straight across to IL. Used 160 to getb round Springfield then I44 clear thru to St Louis.

Spackler ...... hmmm .... close maybe? Not sure where you are but .... Bedford town ain't a great ways off from my A/O.

cordex .... ''littered your yard''?? So you found that popsicle wrapper! :D

bogie - sounds like I was real close . yeah .. I44 and then to I64 to carry on then on R50 east. Didn't know about the OK shoot .... but .. off to OH next saturday for one up there, nr Canton in NE.

Steve Smith - ''breathin your air''??? ..... not sure where you are but coulda been one of those times I smelled burning powder!!

Test1968 - aha .. that was you cut me up eh?!!! In fact despite usual ''raceway'' on I20 .. was following a buddy from Chgandler who knew the way in .. so survived! Found it quite ''competitive'' tho after leaving show .... fighting thru to Fort Worth before headin north.:)

Sisco - Garden City eh ....... DAMN!! ..... went right thru, using R50 ..... whatdya know! Had I known I sure woulda made a quick stop for sure.

I was guestimating where you were.

You're west of Harrisburg, where I grew up, and west of Fairfax, Virginia, where I now live.

Seems at the present count ... I missed out on about 4 beers!:( :p

Mind you, was driving so ... maybe that would have to have been just a soda!

I hope to head out West again next year .... if so I'll plan my route and see if i can be more successful!:)

We missed each other by a long shot. I was in Indianapolis on the 15th. On the 14th I was @ Friendship, IN and from 6/4 to 6/13, at Bowling Green, KY.

Let me put in my $.02 worth. I live in SE AR so you came within 150 mi or so of me. However, I have a son who just moved to Harrisburg, PA area and we will be visiting near there in late August as he is getting married then! Small world!

How's the shooting opportunities in that area when I visit? AND should I plan a winter visit and deer hunt?!!

El Tejon
June 24, 2003, 05:03 PM
50 minutes to the south of me. We could have met in Indy for sushi and to view the young & nubile.:)

How's the shooting opportunities in that area when I visit? AND should I plan a winter visit and deer hunt?!! Critter ..... shooting pretty good ... some formal ranges around but even better is knowin someone with a spread!

Hunting .. that's good ..... a hunting visit would probably prove good for you (early Dec usually Buck begins) ...... mind you, good Huntin too in WV.

If you drove to Harrsburg and used Route 70 and Turnpike you'd only pass me by about 13 miles ........... so, if you felt like droppin by .... you'd be welcome. Only have to tell me when etc. With enough time a quick 8 miles to range would provide a quick bit of R&R!!

Looks like you drove right through Columbus (where I live now) and through the Akron area (where I live when I'm not in school).

Next time mention the trip first, I have keys to the university range :D

Looks like you came pretty close to me. Heck, we spent the whole weekend at the range!

And have cold ones in the cooler, next to the pool!!

Sicso- Sounds like you may be close to me, whereabouts in Ks are you?

Thanks, I'll keep you in mind. The 'wedding trip' time is FULL UP, but I'm looking forward to trying to shoot and hunt in new territory in the future seasons.

The Forest City area was not what I was thinking. I actually hail from Jonesboro. No offense to anyone, but just to let Mr. Carry know, you were in one of the poorest regions of the State. I really doubt anyone had stayed in that motel for a while.

Almost Amarillo Gristle (hard to see on my ultra crude map!)..... in fact Childress just to South......... we used R287 most of the way up and stopped over there. Carried on North outa Amarillo .. so just ''passin thru'' really, and on to Dumas to pick up R87 into NM ... where after a short stop at Raton we hit I25 to get up to Pueblo.

Would like to have stopped and explored .... one of the prob's with the schedule I'd set - never quite enough time!!:)

South of Lebanon, have my own private 200 yard range, if it rains or is cold, you can shoot from inside the house. :D

It looks like you were on I-70, if that's the case, probably about a mile and a half from Ye Olde Homestead.
