I don't get it... why would someone by a 17 hmr pistol? I'm looking on gunbroker and I see a Taurus with a 2" barrel! At short range, isn't a .22 or even .22 WMG a better idea?

I was tempted by the Ruger Single Six in 17 HMR. Had a 6 or 7 inch barrel. But I asked, on a couple forums, if anyone had shot one, and did they like it?

Had a couple negative responses. So I'm gonna pass. But a 2" is just silly.

The .17HMR makes sense if you're going to shoot small things at 100-150 yards.

At any range where you'd use a pistol -- even one with a 7.5" barrel and a scope -- .22LR or .22WMR make sense, .17HMR and M2 simply don't, especially given the price of the ammo. .22LR for all-around use, .22WMR if you simply MUST have JHP ammo going faster, for the game you're shooting.

.17HMR is suited for tiny bolt-action rifles with big scopes. It groups amazingly well, in the right gun.

A few years ago, there was a .17HMR craze. It's died down somewhat, as the round has found its niche. This gun is probably something someone bought at the height of the gottahave17 craze.:)
